Risk Model Strategy & Monitoring Specialist

The mission of Integrated Risk is focused on providing risk identification, aggregation and insight capabilities at Group level across the various Risk domains. The department uses those capabilities across the various risk functions to assume general oversight of risk governance, policies and frameworks, and to steer group-wide model and implementation activities across locations.

The Team

The Integrated Risk Oversight department within Integrated Risk will be responsible for the Credit Risk Model oversight tasks assigned to the Credit Risk Control function under CRR articles 189 and 190. In addition, the team will be responsible for the functional coordination of local model development units across ING’s locations, acting as the gatekeeper for the Group’s methodological standards and regulatory requirements related to model development and monitoring of IRB and IFRS9 models. This includes the coordination of ECB communication on these models and ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal standards for SRT process.

Roles and Responsibilities

Senior expert responsible for ING’s regulatory model strategy and related procedures and methodologies, overseeing monitoring of regulatory models or monitoring & controlling CR capital and capital adjustments. Supports and advises head of Model Strategy & Monitoring in challenging senior risk management and the 1st Line of Defence Credit Risk regarding the use of regulatory models in managing credit risk at portfolio and balance sheet level.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Development of strategic model landscape, capital requirement procedures or internal model methodologies applicable to all regulatory internal models and global capital requirements.
  • Question and investigate the application of credit risk management frameworks and escalate to Head of Integrated Risk Oversight / Model Strategy & Monitoring.
  • Advise and lead technical team on redevelopment of model monitoring targeted towards efficiency and simplification, overseeing model risk identification and ensuring credit risk remains adequately capitalized across ING, covering IRB RWA of 220bn and corresponding level of provisioning.
  • (Re)development of dashboards and reports to sr management and MBB on risk migration, capital planning and RWA consumption.
  • Proactively manage internal stakeholders across end-to-end regulatory credit risk model lifecycle across ING globally.

Specific Knowledge and Experience

  • Work Experience: 10-15 years of experience in financial risk management, supervision or related fields.
  • Broad expertise across credit risk modelling, statistics, policy development, regulation/supervision, combining strong technical background with domain expertise.
  • Experience in steering / managing / organizing teams of experts over short/medium timescales.
  • Policy and procedures: Uses expertise across regulatory modelling lifecycle to act as the organizational authority on developing, monitoring, interpreting and understanding policies and procedures, while making sure they match organizational strategies and objectives.
  • Risk Management: Applies broad knowledge on the end-to-end regulatory credit risk model lifecycle (IT, data, model & policy development, regulation) to act as the organizational authority on identifying, assessing, prioritizing and managing model risks.
  • Numerical / Data Analysis: Uses an expert understanding of numerical concepts to act as organizational authority on statistical data analysis and creation of clear and precise visualisations and reports.
  • Communication: Acts with expertise as the organization's authority on using clear and effective verbal and written communications skills to express ideas, request actions and formulate policies and methodologies.
