How you can make a difference

As Specialist ESG Controller, you’ll be responsible for periodical reporting and managing delivery of inputs for specific sustainability KPIs. As part of the ESG controlling team, you are responsible for the end-to-end reporting process. You ensure that reporting is accurate and complete and that reporting processes run smoothly by actively seeking improvement opportunities.

About Ahold Delhaize

We’re Ahold Delhaize, one of the world’s largest food retail groups and a leader in both supermarkets and e-commerce. Together with our 17 strong local retail brands in the United States, Europe and Indonesia, we make a meaningful difference in the lives of our brands’ customers, our people and the world around us. We offer a highly dynamic, international work environment in which our associates thrive.

Your new work environment

The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) area reflects business strategy, data creation, collection and reporting across sustainability topics relevant for Ahold Delhaize. The Specialist ESG Controller is responsible for accurate and complete reporting of ESG KPIs and key measurement indicators (STI) such as food waste, healthy sales, plastic packaging, and carbon emissions, among other topics.

ESG actuals reporting and performance management is a dynamic and growing topic at Ahold Delhaize. Due to new regulatory requirements and internal ambitions to improve reporting, there is a high level of management change. As ESG topics are getting more integrated into the core of our business practices, the reporting function is constantly developing.

For newly added KPIs, you set report requirements and implement reporting processes in close collaboration with data teams, business process improvement teams, and IT. You are also responsible for creating awareness about changing definitions and additional ESG KPIs within the brands. This means being closely connected to the EU and Group ESG teams and reviewing the Accounting Manual update processes.

You are part of Business Service Finance (BSF) and will directly report to the EU ESG Reporting Manager. Main stakeholders are Finance Business Planning & Performance (BPP), Business Process Improvement (BPI), Business controllers and Risk & Control (R&C) working on ESG, as well as Health & Sustainability (H&S) and other business owners of ESG KPIs.

You cooperate across all departments with data collectors, support data gathering as needed, and ensure proper understanding of organizational definitions. You communicate with internal stakeholders who provide the required data to report both externally (in the annual report via group) and internally (in management information).

Key responsibilities of your role

  • Oversee ESG data gathering processes and ensure consistency and quality of this data by reviewing data under supervision of the Manager ESG Control

  • Prepare internal reporting to Ahold Delhaize leadership and further develop period reporting based on business requirements

  • Challenge users with the indicators to ensure better quality
