Why this role exists

We’re looking for a full-stack Lead Software Engineer with deep frontend expertise who strengthens how user-facing software is designed, built, and evolved, while helping other engineers grow their frontend capability through active coaching.

This role exists because strong frontend engineering requires seniority, judgment, and experience. Many of our teams are backend-heavy, and this position provides hands-on expertise to improve frontend quality, reduce risk, and raise confidence in frontend decision-making across the department.

You will be a senior individual contributor within a Scrum team, leading primarily in your specialist area rather than through formal team leadership. Your impact comes from high-quality execution, clear technical reasoning, and active coaching of other engineers.

What you’ll do

Lead through frontend expertise

  • Act as a frontend subject-matter expert within your Scrum team and across the department.
  • Take ownership of complex, frontend-heavy features and improvements.
  • Influence technical decisions through clarity, experience, and well-reasoned trade-offs.

Build high-quality full-stack software

  • Design and develop full-stack solutions with a strong emphasis on frontend architecture, usability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Work extensively with AngularJS, React, and TypeScript, while collaborating effectively across backend and integration layers.
  • Improve existing frontend codebases pragmatically, steadily reducing complexity and technical risk.

Mentor and upskill other engineers

  • Dedicate part of your time to actively mentoring and coaching engineers across the department.
  • Support backend-focused engineers in strengthening their frontend skills through:
  • Pair programming
  • Design and code reviews
  • Hands-on guidance in real production codebases
  • Focus on practical skill development that engineers can immediately apply.

Improve requirements

  • Challenge unclear, incomplete, or overlooked frontend requirements early.
  • Help Product Owners and stakeholders better articulate user experience, behaviour, and non-functional concerns.
  • Propose concrete improvements and trade-offs at feature level to avoid late surprises.

Collaborate effectively within and across teams

  • Work closely with engineers, Product Owners, and QA to deliver coherent, user-centred solutions.
  • Support shared ownership of code without becoming a bottleneck or gatekeeper.
  • Contribute constructively to technical discussions while operating within agreed architectural boundaries.

Operate in a modern cloud environment

  • Develop and maintain software running on Azure, Kubernetes, and Windows-based platforms.
  • Work comfortably with REST and SOAP APIs, distributed systems, and SQL Server.
  • Collaborate with platform and cloud teams to use shared services effectively.

Our technical context

  • Backend: .NET, C#
  • Frontend: AngularJS, React, TypeScript
  • Platform: Azure (IaaS, PaaS), Kubernetes, Windows
  • APIs & Integration: REST, SOAP
  • Data: SQL Server

Experience with similar ecosystems and strong engineering judgment matters more than matching every keyword.

How you work

  • Thinks deeply about user experience and frontend design
  • Writes code that others can understand, test, and evolve
  • Leads through expertise and collaboration rather than hierarchy
  • Constructively challenges assumptions and requirements
  • Enjoys mentoring and enabling others
  • Works effectively across cultures and locations

What success looks like

  • Frontend codebases become easier to understand, extend, and maintain.
  • Backend-heavy engineers become more capable and confident with frontend work.
  • Frontend concerns are identified and addressed earlier in the delivery process.
  • Teams benefit from your expertise without becoming dependent on you.
  • Technical quality improves without slowing delivery.

Language & location

  • The Scrum team is based in Europe, primarily in the Netherlands.
  • Dutch language skills is a nice to have.
  • Regular collaboration with engineers in India (Pune) is expected.

What we offer

  • A 36- to 40-hours working week with flexible working hours and the possibility to work from home.
  • A salary fitting your skill level.
  • A yearly bonus.
  • 25 vacation days (based of 40 hours).
  • A hybrid way of working, max 2 days at the office per week.
  • Wolters Kluwer refunds 50% of your pension contributions.
  • An informal working environment and with multiple events planned each year.
  • Coffee from freshly toasted fair-trade beans and every day delicious fresh fruit.
  • Every day a lunch buffet is provided to enjoy with your colleagues and free of cost.
