ING is expanding its architecture team and seeking a seasoned IT Finance Architect to join CIO Finance & Risk. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority for the Finance domain, shaping the future of our accounting landscape in close collaboration with a functional architect.

Beyond your architectural expertise, you bring strong engineering capabilities and a deep understanding of integrating SaaS solutions and hybrid cloud environments (public/private). You’ll work across a diverse set of Finance & Risk areas—including Data Platforms, Accounting, Monitoring, and Regulatory Reporting—delivering architectural solutions that are scalable, secure, and future-ready.

This is a high-impact role where your contributions will directly influence ING’s technology vision and help drive transformation across the Finance domain.

Must-have:

  • Proven experience in the banking sector
  • Hands-on expertise in implementing product and cost accounting solutions
  • Strong track record with accounting platforms such as Oracle, SAP, or equivalent vendors

What we expect:

  • Strategic Storytelling: Able to communicate complex architectural concepts in a compelling and accessible way
  • Change Leadership: Drives incremental transformation from transitional to target architecture
  • Visionary Thinking: Designs future-state architectures and develops actionable roadmaps
  • Global Impact: Contributes to the definition and adoption of global architectural standards
  • Stakeholder Management: Navigates across multiple departments and builds strong relationships
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Acts as the go-to authority for accounting architecture
  • Engineering Mindset: Brings hands-on engineering skills and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Tech Fluency: Demonstrates deep knowledge of emerging technologies, business processes, and architectural patterns
  • Clear Communication: Produces well-structured documentation and visualizations that are easy to understand
  • Mentorship: Coaches and supports colleagues to grow architectural maturity
  • Policy Translation: Converts Finance policies into actionable architectural guidelines
  • Autonomy with Initiative: Operates independently with minimal guidance, while proactively seeking mentorship when needed

Your work environment:

You will join the Enterprise Architecture team within CIO Finance & Risk (F&R), reporting directly to the Team Manager of CIO F&R Architecture. This dynamic team is composed of 12 seasoned architects—each a recognised expert in their technical or functional domain.

Together, the team holds end-to-end architectural responsibility across all CIO/Finance and Financial Risk domains, playing a pivotal role in shaping ING’s technology landscape and driving strategic transformation across the bank.

Who we are looking for?

We’re looking for someone who’s been in the trenches of Finance & Risk—not just observing from the sidelines. You bring at least 10 years of experience as an architect or technical lead within the banking sector, with a deep understanding of the Finance domain.

You have a proven track record of driving architectural and technological change, both broadly across ICT and specifically within the Finance and Risk application landscape. Your accounting expertise is non-negotiable—we need someone who can help shape a data-driven accounting architecture that supports strategic decision-making.

You know how to deliver clear, actionable architectural products that enable leadership to move with confidence. You operate as a trusted advisor at L2/L3 level, bridging business needs with technical vision. Your knowledge of accounting systems and implementation is solid, and you understand the intricacies of banking products and processes inside out.

You align your architecture vision with the long term IT vision and the business strategy. You like complex analysis and you can identify and use the different forces that exist in the organisation. You are a team player and able to motivate others. You have good communication and consultancy skills and you are persuasive.
