Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Modeller to join our Data Science & AI Department, in a team focused on Clinical / Real World Data. In this role, you will develop data models for pre-clinical/clinical/R&D environments, embedded in data ecosystems, ensuring data quality and regulatory compliance, and their integration across the diverse dsm-firmenich scientific domains.

The ideal candidate has a strong data modelling background, a solid understanding of data engineering principles and data management/governance best practices, an affinity for working in multidisciplinary teams, and a passion for data-driven decision-making. This role will be in an international setting, working within a global company, providing the opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams across various regions.

Your key responsibilities

  • Design logical and physical enterprise data models that support analytics, reporting, and operational use cases across clinical, pre-clinical trial domains and other R&D scientific environments, as well as their integration in data ecosystems.
  • Implement and maintain data modelling architectures, including hubs, links, satellites, and business vault patterns to enable auditable, historized, and scalable data integration.
  • Develop and deploy comprehensive data management strategies and data governance frameworks, and ensure compliance with FAIR principles and good data management practices.
  • Support the implementation of data quality frameworks and establish quality rules to ensure data accuracy and reliability, following data standards in regulated environments.
  • Support the implementation of data management tools, ETL data pipelines and platforms, to support data processing, governance and quality initiatives.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including scientific, technical, and business stakeholders, to gather requirements and deliver data solutions for their projects.

We bring

  • A hybrid working environment, with competitive benefits, and a clear scientific career progression within Science & Research.
  • A space to grow by encouraging and supporting curiosity and an open mindset.
  • Working in a global, diverse and multi-cultural team of colleagues.
  • An eagerness to be one team and learn from each other to bring progress to life and create a better future.

You bring

  • Strong hands-on expertise in data modelling (preferably Data Vault); design of conceptual, logical, and physical data models; and dimensional modelling familiarity.
  • Practical experience with FAIR principles and data governance practices: (meta)data management, lineage, semantic clarity, stewardship workflows and data ownership.
  • Working knowledge of ETL concepts, transformation design, orchestration patterns, and pipeline observability.
  • Experience with dbt (model structure, tests, documentation, incremental strategies, macros) and Databricks/lakehouse concepts (e.g., Delta Lake, medallion architecture, performance considerations).
  • Experience in data quality standards (for example CDISC) and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and their compliance in good data management practices and good clinical practices. Experience with clinical trial management systems (e.g. Veeva) is a plus.
  • Experience in pharma, nutrition, biotech, microbiome/omics or R&D environments in general.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and advancements in cloud platforms, data services and integrations is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong project management and leadership capabilities. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and interact with a wide range of stakeholders.
