Engineer the beating heart of our most advanced warehouse to date

How do you make our customers happy?

A warehouse is only as capable as its mechanization. As the Senior Project Manager & MHE Lead for BFCM – bol’s newest modular fulfillment center – you’ll specify, tender, contract, and deliver the integrated mechanization system that processes millions of customer orders. From automation to robotics and WMS integration, you’ll help determine how quickly and reliably products move from warehouse shelf to customer doorstep. You’ll contract and coordinate a network of specialist suppliers, align their contributions with a shared design vision, and ensure the result delivers on performance promises. The result? A next-generation facility, designed from the ground up to set industry benchmarks.

The biggest challenge

Multiple suppliers, one integrated system, lofty ambitions. Each vendor delivers a crucial mechanization component, but the system must function as a whole. You’ll gracefully manage interdependencies across suppliers, resolve conflicts before they get the chance to escalate, and keep a complex program moving through bol’s stage-gate governance process while protecting schedule integrity. All in a greenfield environment where design decisions are still being shaped, and stakeholder requirements can evolve in real time.

What you’ll do as the Senior Project Manager & MHE Lead

You’ll join the BFCM project team within the Infrastructure Development department. This team is responsible for delivering bol’s next fulfillment center: a modular, state-of-the-art facility that will greatly enhance our logistics network. As the Senior Project Manager & MHE Lead, you’ll enthusiastically connect engineering design, supplier management, and operational readiness. You’ll manage the mechanization work stream from specification through commissioning. That includes developing detailed requirements, managing multi-vendor tendering processes, negotiating contracts, and overseeing installation and testing. Throughout, you’ll work closely with colleague PM’s, operational stakeholders, and engineering partners to ensure MHE systems integrate seamlessly with the building’s architecture, warehouse management systems, and operational workflows. In practice:

  • Develop technical specifications and coordinate the tender process for MHE packages
  • Coach and develop your team of project managers and solution engineers, creating and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
  • Partner with colleague Project Managers, ensuring we all work towards the same goals, enthusiastically and energetically
  • Oversee system design, integration, installation, and commissioning
  • Coordinate interfaces between MHE, WMS, and building services
  • Manage the scope, schedule, and risks within bol’s stage-gate governance framework
  • Align operations, engineering, and supplier teams around shared milestones

Why you can make a difference

Your strength? You bring technical affinity and program rigor to complex, multi-stakeholder environments. With 10+ years of experience managing complex CAPEX projects, including large-scale mechanization or industrial automation projects, you have what it takes to turn abstract requirements into workable specifications and operational systems. You’ve managed multi-vendor ecosystems before, can navigate contracting intricacies in your sleep, and always maintain the right pace. An affinity for automation, robotics integration, and WMS systems will serve you well!

Equally important is your ability to connect and empower people. You build heartfelt trust across organizational boundaries, communicate with clarity at every level, and instinctively know when to push for a decision and when to create room to foster alignment. An academic background in a technical discipline is strongly preferred. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Dutch is a valued addition.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you

  • - Comfort cruiser You prefer well-defined environments where the scope is predetermined and surprises are rare
  • - Blissful soloist Coordinating across teams, suppliers, and cultures? Hard pass!
  • - Installation avoider You craft meticulous plans with ease but tend to lose momentum when it’s time to implement them
  • + Integration artist You see mechanization systems as interconnected ecosystems, and always paint a compelling big picture
  • + Audience enchanter You tailor your message to the audience and build confidence through your direction
  • + Greenfield enthusiast The opportunity to shape a facility from the ground up excites you

Where you’ll work

You’ll join the Infrastructure Development team within bol’s logistics organization. This team delivers projects that shape bol’s fulfillment network. The environment is diverse, welcoming, collaborative, and hands-on: we bring different perspectives together, enthusiastically share our knowledge, and hold each other accountable. The projects you deliver directly support the logistics backbone that makes it all work.
