Senior Software Engineer (C# / Java)

Your position

As the Lead Engineer for Load Forming Logic (LFL) development, you will play a central role in shaping and advancing one of Vanderlande’s core optimization components. The LFL software calculates the optimal balance between store friendliness, stability, and pallet utilization. It determines pallet counts, stacking patterns, and the optimal sequence of items flowing to the palletizing station, balancing often conflicting constraints using sophisticated search and optimization algorithms.

In this position, you will lead the engineering activities for LFL, guiding the architectural direction, ensuring high-quality implementation, and driving continuous improvement across the product. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external customers to translate operational needs into robust technical solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and testing of the Load Forming Logic application.
  • Drive architectural and technical decision-making for LFL development.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and customers to gather requirements, define priorities, and align technical solutions with operational needs.
  • Translate functional and non-functional requirements into efficient, maintainable, and scalable software designs.
  • Identify and analyze risks, resolve technical challenges, and propose improvements to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Decompose complex problems, address bottlenecks, and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
  • Review code, ensure software quality, and support continuous integration and delivery processes.
  • Contribute to support activities and provide expertise during deployment and operational phases.

Your profile

  • Bachelor (BSc), Master (MSc) or PhD degree in a relevant software or technical education like computer science/engineering, software engineering, embedded systems, industrial automation.
  • Good knowledge of (optimization) algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming in C# and Java.
  • You have +/-5 years of relevant working experience.
  • Experienced in CICD concepts, devenv tooling and workflow integration (Change management, Build, Test, Release) is a plus.
  • Background in managing development environments, services and tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Jenkins, PowerShell, ...) is a plus.
