SBM Offshore is a global leader in deepwater ocean infrastructure, delivering floating production solutions across the full asset lifecycle—from design and construction to installation and operation.

Purpose

The Senior Instrumentation Engineer (Analyzers) for FPSO projects is responsible for engineering, integration, and lifecycle management of process analyzers and sample handling systems in offshore floating production environments. This role ensures analyzer systems meet stringent safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements for oil & gas production on FPSOs.

Responsibilities

Design & Specification

  • Develop analyzer system specifications for FPSO topside process units (e.g., gas treatment, produced water, flare systems).
  • Select analyzer technologies suitable for offshore conditions (humidity, vibration, hazardous areas).
  • Work with offshore analyzers such as Oxygen, BS&W, Moisture, OiW, gas chromatographs, CO₂.
  • Prepare datasheets, P&IDs, and analyzer shelter layouts considering space and weight constraints.

Project Execution

  • Provide technical input during FEED and detailed design phases for FPSO projects.
  • Review inter-disciplinary inputs.
  • Verify HP/LP interfaces.
  • Review vendor packages for analyzer systems and ensure compliance with offshore standards.

  • Conduct FAT, SAT, and loop checks ensuring compliance with FPSO safety protocols.
  • Troubleshoot analyzer issues during offshore commissioning and start-up.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Develop maintenance strategies for analyzers in offshore environments (corrosion, salt spray, vibration).
  • Support reliability improvement initiatives and root cause analysis for analyzer failures.
  • Optimize analyzer performance for continuous operation in remote offshore conditions.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure adherence to API, ASME, IEC, ISA, ISO and offshore safety standards (ATEX, IECEx, ABS, DNV).
  • Implement hazardous area installation practices for FPSO topsides.
  • Ensure adherence to IMO MARPOL requirements.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain analyzer documentation, calibration records, and offshore compliance reports.
  • Prepare reliability and performance reports for offshore operations.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Instrumentation Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years in instrumentation engineering with at least 3 years in offshore/FPSO projects.

Technical Skills

  • Proven expertise in process analyzers (gas chromatographs, moisture, H₂S, CO₂, oxygen analyzers).
  • Knowledge of sample handling systems for offshore applications.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation tubing & fittings, heat tracing, offshore material constraints.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation database tools (e.g., SmartPlant Instrumentation, Aveva Engineering).
  • Familiarity with field instrumentation, DCS/PLC integration and communication protocols.

Preferred Certifications

  • Offshore Survival & Safety Training (BOSIET).
  • Hazardous Area Certification (Ex/ATEX).

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years in Oil & Gas Industry
