ROBIN’s CEO Patrick Speijers is an online shopping freak with a serious shoe craze. If there’s one thing Patrick hates in life… it’s bad service. Throughout his countless online shopping experiences, he often got annoyed by lousy service from smaller web stores. But instead of complaining online, he started thinking about a solution…

Throughout his countless online shopping experiences, he often got annoyed by lousy service from smaller web stores. But instead of complaining online, he started thinking about a solution…

Robin logoHe started talking to his colleagues Wim Veninga and Wilco Rietberg at Trinicom [acq. by Kana Software Inc. April ‘12], a vendor of high end Web Customer Service solutions for large enterprises. Together, they realized conventional ticketing systems deliver far too much functionality for the online retailer’s needs, which impacts costs, implementation time and ease of use.

They discovered that many small & medium sized online retailers had a strong ambition to better serve online shoppers and turn customer service into a competitive advantage. But tools like Outlook, Gmail and Houtsuite were not sufficient. There was a clear need for an affordable all-in-one solution that is easy to set up and joyful to use.

The solution became more than a tool. It became an assistant for online stores. A sidekick, who joins them wherever they go. ROBIN was named after Batman’s sidekick. And, because a robin is also a mobile, agile, quick and clever little bird, he was quickly incorporated as the company’s visual brand identity.

Wim and Wilco had important roles in starting up ROBIN. Wim helped to recruit a great team and created a superior technical base for ROBIN. Wilco contributed creative business model input and is currently ROBIN’s investor. Patrick is now ROBIN’s CEO who is crazy enough to feature on the homepage of the website wearing a Robin super hero suit.

Patrick Speijers at The Next Web 2012ROBIN’s public launch was in April 2012 at TNW Conference, where ROBIN made it to the finals of Startup Rally. In January 2013, ROBIN won the Dutch E-commerce Software Innovation Award 2013! Today, you can signup for a free 30-day trail on the ROBIN web site and you integrate your online store via the Shopify, Magento, Bigcommerce and SEOshop app stores.
