Are you passionate about business? Good. We are too.

Caterpillar has been building the world's infrastructure for over 90 years as the leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. But beyond this, the organisation has established itself as a technology leader in construction, transportation, mining, forestry, energy, logistics, electronics, financing and electric power generation. Caterpillar is a globally diverse company. Its people come from many places. Their backgrounds and experiences are different and so are the businesses they work for within Caterpillar.

What do we do?

The Advanced Components (ACM) division spans seven countries and has 5,000+ employees. We deliver operational excellence in manufacturing drivetrain, hydraulic components and operator stations, producing components valued greater than $3B. The ACM team includes Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, and Operations Managers who align to deliver superior safety, quality, velocity and cost to our business partners.

We have exciting opportunities to join our Quality, Manufacturing and Supply Chain team based in Belfast. Working with others across our organization, you would be directly involved and at the heart of our business, participating on strategic projects driving continuous improvement, efficiency gain and cost reduction.

What experiences can you offer me?

During the summer placement, you will be based in one of the following teams working on real projects, alongside experienced engineers and material planners gaining first-hand experience of Lean Manufacturing principles, supporting efficiency improvement initiatives at the facility and updating production standard work documentation.

The Manufacturing Engineering Team - responsible for leading production employees to execute the assembly, test and paint processes within the manufacturing facility, to deliver a world-class product to our customers.

The Quality Team - responsible for conducting investigations and analyses which contribute to the development and implementation of methods, procedures and equipment that ensure quality standards for parts and prime products within ACM (Advanced Component Manufacture) Springvale, Belfast. Using 6 Sigma & Lean methodology, the Quality Team provides technical support for products by leading on quality development, production quality problems resolution, and warranty reduction.

The Supply Chain Team - accountable for end to end management of material supply to the facility, production scheduling and outbound shipping to our Customers. The roles within the group vary from supplier management, packaging design to transport management. In 2019 a significant goal for Supply Chain is to fully embed EDI and MRC to the entire supply base, which will facilitate Scan/receive automation.

These roles utilise the Caterpillar Production System (Lean Manufacturing) Principles to deliver People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) improvements and results. You will be required to interact and liaise with other departments internal and external to the business.

You will be given all the support you require to be successful in your summer placement.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for people who can show us a highly participative working style, and who thrive in a team of committed professionals. And at the same time, we need people who can think independently and drive change through persuasion and influence. Strong analytical, communication and presentational skills are a must as you’d need to package clear strategic recommendations based on data and sell them confidently to production and management employees.

As an equal opportunity employer, we value diversity at Caterpillar. We believe the more experience you gain early in your career, the further you can go.
