The Maintenance Department at Caterpillar Peterlee have the responsibility to maintain and repair all production related equipment, plan continuous improvement projects and capital projects in relation to this equipment to ensure the facility can perform at its optimum with the latest technology installed and maintained on site. The Opportunity

We are seeking a buyer to join our Peterborough based team with energy, capability and the desire to research, assess and deliver strategic sourcing plans along with driving execution, for a wide range of cast and machined components, while managing productive commercial relationships with our current supply base. Collaborating with our global purchasing colleagues they will deliver the European element of a unified, competitive, risk mitigated, 5-year strategy. This will ensure secured supply through the business cycles for the global engine facilities that we serve.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • This role is responsible and accountable for the development, and / or communication and implementation of a regional and worldwide sourcing strategy. Responsible for development, management, and execution of the global category strategy managing policies, agreements, source catalogues, and special procurement programs.
  • Ensure business continuity, supplier risk management (capacity & financial), logistics, contract management, supplier commercial negotiations, cost / spend management, Total Cost of Acquisition (TCA) assurance, supplier on / off boarding, response time optimisation and resource management decisions
  • Demonstrate leadership in recognising the potential for cost and inventory reductions and promoting a Zero-Defect methodology, as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment.
  • To serve as the primary contact for commercial discussions and negotiations with suppliers
  • Promote the highest level of professionalism and business ethics
  • Collaborate with Supplier Development Engineers to lead and drive continuous improvement in Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development and Management (QCLDM) with key suppliers.
  • Build and foster mutually beneficial supplier relationships at all organisational levels.
  • Identify, qualify, and on-board new suppliers and proactively manage their maturation within the business units

Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Experience in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, or engineering ideally gained in a manufacturing, automotive or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
  • An undergraduate degree from a college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills are required in dealing with sensitive issues, developing others, reaching consensus on specific actions along with project execution.
  • Relevant Purchasing experience
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator in written and oral form at all levels within the business units and supply base
  • Sound negotiation experience; able to interpret, analyse, and negotiate contractual cost elements.

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles as applied by Caterpillar and our suppliers
  • Understanding of Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development and Management principles (QCLDM) principles.
  • Professional certification in Purchasing and / or Inventory Management preferred e.g. CIPS

so manages a number of contractors to support in these planned and reactive tasks. Equipment the Maintenance team support but not limited to - Laser cutting equipment, Welding Robots, automated equipment and plant including Robotic paint systems, Hydraulic presses, welding equipment, Plasma cutting equipment, Torque control equipment, Compressed air systems, pressurised paint systems, Crane systems, Hydraulic & pneumatic equipment, Radio controlled equipment and AGV's.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Internal & External PM planning, scheduling & management
  • Project planning
  • Shutdown planning
  • Contractor/Vendor Management
  • Vendor Support Contract Management - Reactive and service support contracts
  • Supporting Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and reporting – full training will be provided for this
  • Technical support to the team of Maintenance Multi Skilled Technicians and Leadership team
  • Lead continuous improvement projects on existing capital equipment
  • Support obsolescence projects on capital equipment
  • Supporting the identification and purchase of new capital equipment within the facility
  • Supervising Contractor works for ongoing projects and vendor support contractors
  • Root Cause Analysis for critical machine breakdowns
  • Supporting H&S regulations - Risk Assessments, PUWER assessments, COSHH Assessments, HAVS, LOLER, HV Service.

Qualifications

NB. The panel cannot make assumptions when shortlisting therefore please demonstrate your qualifications and experience on your CV relevant to the criteria outlined.

Skills, qualifications or experiences which you will have:

  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant Maintenance experience
  • Clear understanding of Maintenance SSOF and previous history working as part of a Maintenance Team
  • High Degree of experience in all maintenance related work as listed above
  • High Degree of experience in working with a CMMS system and a PM system
  • Good technical communication skills
  • Strong PC skills to include data analysis skills
  • NEBOSH related safety qualification
  • Ability to work flexibly

Skills, qualification or experiences which you may have:

  • Management experience
