Who you’ll be working with

The Telford Database Delivery Centre (DDC) are currently seeking a graduate to join their Database Administrator (DBA) team. The DDC currently support 1500 databases and over 200TB of Data. The DDC are striving to be a recognized globally as Capgemini’s centre of excellence for database activities. Our primary customer is HMRC, however over the last 12 to 18 months we have had clients from Scandinavia, France, India, USA and the UK, therefore mobility is essential to the role.

You will join a team who are responsible for the complete life-cycle of all databases within the organization. You will start at a graduate level, learning from and assisting a team of DBA’s around you but developing into a full DBA yourself.

Database technologies used in the roles include:

  • Oracle
  • SQL Server
  • MySQL
  • Mongodb
  • PostgreSQL
  • MariaDB

Whatever your degree, this role could be for you if you are keen to gain a broad range of technical and business skills, with first-hand exposure to the newest technologies in a real working environment. You will be encouraged to be curious, to try new things, and be ready to challenge and be challenged. A flair for building rapport is vital too, as is the ability to quickly grasp complex concepts. If you also enjoy making things happen and driving initiatives forward, you could soon be working with a group of people who care as much as you do.

What you’ll do

  • We are looking for Graduates to join a team environment providing a DBA function supporting both Project and Live Service teams, involving:

  • Design, configuration and Implementation of all database related tools and technologies

  • Working with the Architecture team to help define the technical architecture in relation to database systems
  • Planning and managing all improvements and ongoing maintenance (routine updates, upgrades, new releases) ensuring that any disruption is kept to a minimum
  • Managing the availability of databases that underpin all systems ensuring resources are correctly allocated to guarantee optimum performance and high resilience
  • Systems Monitoring; investigating and resolving issues where necessary
  • Actively contributing towards the development and maintenance of data standards and data management policies
  • Working at client sites

  • Any prior experience of the above database technologies or an understanding of relational databases would be an advantage but not essential as all technical training will be given in house or by Database vendors.
