Picnic is Europe’s fastest growing online supermarket. With an expanding assortment, our Trading team act as the link between Picnic and our suppliers. They initiate and negotiate new relationships, pilot projects, and develop new products. We’re looking for a Trading Intern to combine a genuine interest for food with analytical abilities and assist the Trading team in day-to-day and strategic challenges.

Where you fit in

Picnic is evolving, there are constantly new projects in motion. You develop quantitative and qualitative understandings on issues relating to products in the assortment. From processes such as certifications, supply-chains, or to developing new food concepts, you translate feedback and data into actionable insights. Getting hands-on, you play a role in tasting sessions, calling customers and suppliers, and preparing for negotiations.

While you dive into daily tasks with enthusiasm, you know when to step back and look at the bigger picture. With long-term vision and commercial awareness, you make improvements specific to Picnic’s e-commerce business model. You’re also able to present these ideas in strategy, data, or as part of a company presentation.

We expect interns to fit straight into a demanding atmosphere. You’ll be working alongside the category managers, treated as a full-time employee, and receiving invaluable experience in a challenging environment. With a foot in the door, you can create a solid platform from which to embark on a career. By working with us, you ensure that Picnic’s customers have the best deals and products a finger tap away.

What you do

  • Assist category managers in a variety of tasks (preparing negotiations, testing products, developing projects)
  • Perform assortment analyses: find the best products at the best price
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative understandings on issues relating to assortment
  • Investigate e-commerce processes and present how they affect Picnic’s business model
  • Work on a category strategy and promotional road-map

What you need

  • Studying a Bachelor’s or Master’s
  • Analytical eye: you don’t have to be a data wizard, but you grasp ideas immediately
  • Superb communication: you have the capacity to articulate problems and projects to all stakeholders
  • Passion for food and commercial awareness: you have three ideas for a food brand, and you know why two will fail
  • Hands-on attitude: you’re always ready to call a supplier or customer
  • Long-term vision: you possess an understanding of processes in the wider e-commerce market
  • At least 6 months
  • Fluency in Dutch and English
