Imagine...

Imagine being actively involved in managing part of Rabobank’s EUR 600 billion core balance sheet. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on both the steering and the execution of Rabobank’s funding and hedging strategy.

Making a difference

You can make a difference by:

  • Executing funding and hedging transactions in international financial markets;
  • Performing analysis on liquidity, interest or FX risk positions and the wider balance sheet of the bank;
  • Implementing new technologies and driving digital change processes.

With each other

Treasury is a global department that acts as the central function within the Rabobank group responsible for the first line management of balance sheet risks (e.g. interest rate risk, liquidity risk, FX risk and collateral management). Treasury’s main task is to protect and optimize Rabobank’s financial position. In this way Treasury is the internal counterpart for risk transfer of the commercial business lines within the Group.

Treasury is responsible for proposing strategies and execution thereof, for raising wholesale funding in the professional money markets and capital markets, issuing capital instruments and subordinated debt, maintaining the bank's liquidity buffers and managing the global interest rate risk position.

Treasury is located in the Dealingrooms of Rabobank around the world, with the main hubs being in Utrecht, New York, London, Hong Kong, Sao Paolo and Sydney. We are an international department at the centre of the worldwide financial system, operating at the complex intersection of trading, financial modelling, internal policy making, complying with regulatory developments and keeping up with digital innovation.

With you

We are looking for the best in class university students who are already in possession of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university and in pursuit of a Master’s degree. At the start of your internship, you are required to remain enrolled at a university during your full internship and to be available to work full-time for a timeframe of 3 to 9 months, depending on your assignment and the desk at which your internship will take place.

Required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university and currently enrolled in a Master’s degree (a degree in Mathematics/Econometrics, Business/Economics or Data Science/Analytics is a plus, though not a hard requirement);
  • Outstanding record of academic achievement combined with extra-curricular interests;
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills; fluency in English is required. Adequate command of Dutch is helpful, but not a must;
  • Clear affinity with financial markets, risk and/or treasury;
  • Exceptional (quantitative) problem solving and analytical skills with a can-do mentality to achieve results;
  • General proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel);

  • You should be eager and willing to learn and improve, solid work ethic and high level of self-motivation are required;

  • Ambitious team player who is not afraid to take initiative and who is able to take into account the interests of a variety of stakeholders.

For some assignments a general affinity with (financial) IT or a certain proficiency in data gathering/analysis/processing, or modelling/programming (in Excel VBA, SQL, Python, C++, R) is highly recommended.

Furthermore, it would be helpful if you have some previous experience in financial markets, investment banking or treasury, or if you possess some basic knowledge of relevant financial products and a basic understanding of financial markets, in particular related to treasury and interest rate/FX risk. A basic understanding of general banking activities and products (retail, wholesale, financial markets) would be helpful as well, but is not a hard requirement.

Rabobank is a cooperative bank with a mission. Together with our stakeholders, we have been dedicated to creating a future-proof society and tackling major societal challenges for 125 years. In the Netherlands, we serve retail and corporate clients; globally we focus on the food and agriculture sector. Our starting point is: together we can achieve more than we could individually.
