Introduction

Our ESG & Building Analytics platform provides real estate companies with the tools they need to achieve Net-Zero emissions and create healthy indoor environments. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, our team comprises young, highly educated individuals driven to impact the world positively.

The Assignment

As an intern or thesis intern at Healthy Workers, you will be vital in advancing our mission by contributing to developing and analyzing models and methods to create fully autonomous buildings. Working with a diverse dataset from over 100 buildings totaling 1,000,000 m2 of floor area, you will apply machine learning and data science techniques to derive insights and improve building performance. Your responsibilities may include research and analysis on topics such as anomaly detection, energy prediction, and simulation of building control systems. We offer flexibility in the duration of the internship, allowing for discussions with you and your academic supervisor to tailor the experience to your needs.

Possible themes for an internship/thesis internship:

  • Machine Learning for automatic anomaly detection or prediction in large commercial building systems
  • Transfer learning to control building management systems
  • ML with simulation to investigate the impact of building control
  • Supervised learning to identify possible energy savings by labeling inefficient or faulty practices within building management systems.
  • Supervised learning to create realistic and real-time energy labels based on the meter and sensor data.
  • Linear regression and k-nearest-neighbors to predict energy usage and possible savings.

What We're Looking For:

-Expertise in model enhancement.

-Proficiency in source control (GitHub, GitLab).

-Strong programming skills (Python/R).

-Experience in ML/AI methods.

-Familiarity with relevant libraries.

-Fluency in English (both written and oral).

-Pre: Master's level students, but all passionate applicants are welcome.

-International Students: Must be currently enrolled in a Master's program.

-EU/Dutch Students: Can be Master's students or recent graduates.

The Process

As soon as we are matched with each other, we will schedule a meeting to discuss the overall assignment and answer any questions you may have. From that point forward, we will connect you to a core team member at Healthy Workers for daily check-ins and schedule a weekly progress meeting to discuss the status and answer any questions that have arisen during the week. This meeting will be in our office (Rokin, Amsterdam). We encourage you to set up meetings independently with various team members to immerse yourself in our business and gather relevant research data.

The expected timeline for the internship is 6 months, with an average weekly time spent of 4 days, with the option of working remotely 1 day a week.

Compensation: monthly internship stipend of €600.
