As Data Analyst Logistics, you zoom in on mission-critical topics in the logistics domain.

How do you make our customers happy?

By helping us fulfill our logistics promises. Challenging because we have grown rapidly, and ‘return to sender’ hasn’t been exclusively us in a long time: our assortment is currently supplemented by about 51,000 partners. That comes with some serious challenges because our delivery promise is simple, but the puzzle is complex. For example, we operate several warehouses and work with multiple delivery partners. We also strive to make our logistics processes efficient, scalable, and sustainable. So, which warehouse should we ship order X from? How can we ship customer orders as single packages? How should we manage peaks in demand? How can we predict those peaks? And how can we manage returns at scale? Data-driven management is the key. Gain the right insights and share them persuasively with the right people.

What you’ll do as Data Analyst Logistics?

As Data Analyst Logistics, you zoom in on mission-critical topics in the logistics domain. And that’s not marketing speak because the quality of our logistics services can make or break the customer experience. The same goes for the experience of hundreds of partners that use our logistics as a service propositions. And shipping up to 20 orders per second, the size and complexity of our playing field is rapidly increasing. And the amount of data at your disposal is growing commensurately. The topics range from ensuring a level logistics playing field (how can we allot our logistics capacity fairly?) to developing and presenting warehousing information (How much of product X should partner Y keep in stock?). And from streamlining and rationalizing return flows to working out capacity models for future warehouses.

As Data Analyst Logistics, you don’t just work ‘to order;’ we greatly value initiative. Dive into the data. Develop hypotheses. Set up experiments to (in)validate those hypotheses. Translate your brightest insights into disruptive innovations and/or clever improvements. And collaborate with your colleagues to turn those solutions into realities. This role requires solid stakeholder management skills: we’re trying to get from insights to concrete actions, and you need to guide your colleagues on this journey. Including colleagues who aren’t as data-savvy as the rest and/or have other priorities on their mind. That takes a talent to think outside-in: how can you translate data-driven conclusions into improvements or innovations that add value for customers, partners, and colleagues? How can you quantify and ‘sell’ the added value persuasively to all stakeholders? Apart from solving hands-on data-crunching challenges, you also flesh out the data vision for the logistics domain and guide your colleagues across the finish line. So that our logistics team can keep making the difference for our customers based on your and your colleagues’ generated data insights.

  • Analyze mountains of logistics data and spot patterns that remain undetectable to others
  • Enrich, model, and visualize data to develop and communicate authoritative insights
  • Share insights enthusiastically and proactively, not just in person but through performance dashboards, etc, as well
  • Play a leading role in realizing the next step in data usage and helping colleagues develop
  • Collaborate with IT, business analysts, and (occasionally) data scientists to develop new models for Logistics opportunities and/or bottlenecks
  • Focus on the entire chain to devise scalable solutions
  • Help colleagues perform complex analyses and modeling tasks and plot creative solutions that would elude less data-savvy colleagues
    • 3 reasons why this is (not) for you

      Pros

      • You dine on data You combine a master’s degree with an impressive track record in data analysis: SQL, Tableau, BigQuery, Airflow/dbt, and (duh) Excel are frequent dinner guests
      • You have a complexity crowbar You can understand and break down complexity into simple components: insights that you present persuasively to all stakeholders
      • You’re not afraid of snakes When someone yells ‘Python!’ you don’t run for the exit; you get ready to model!

      Cons

      • You’re not a fan of stakeholders If you consider stakeholder management a necessary evil, this isn’t your perfect role
      • Je outsource interpretations You’re a skilled analyst but prefer to leave the interpretation to others
      • You love a placid setting A complex, continuously evolving and extremely data-rich landscape? Not your thing!

      This is where you’ll work

“Ik ben echt super blij met de stap die ik heb gemaakt naar bol. De omgeving en cultuur zijn hier erg fijn. Ik kan mijn werk zelf inrichten, werk veel samen en mijn collega’s zijn heel behulpzaam. Daarnaast is het oké om fouten te maken, als we hier maar van leren.”
