IDH – The sustainable trade initiative

Do you have experience in successful solutions development and engagement of sustainable commodity buyers and producers? Do you have a good understanding of the verification needs of businesses, government, and civil society? Do you want to help us channel global commodity demand to the farming communities that produce sustainable commodities? Then you might be our new SourceUp Program Manager!

Background

The Landscapes Business Unit contributes to the IDH ambition through the development of landscape-level sourcing and development models that are viable for buyers of tropical agricultural commodities, that improve the well-being of farmers, and that protect and enhance the natural environment. Protection-Production-Inclusion (PPI) is the multi-stakeholder approach we bring to areas where the protection of natural ecosystems, in particular forests, is threatened by the expansion of agricultural production.

To better enable engagement by agricommodity buyers with production landscapes and sustainable landscape initiatives, IDH & partners have created SourceUp. SourceUp’s mission is to establishing landscape engagement as a norm for sustainable sourcing in global supply chains. By forging the connection between production landscapes and supply chains, we transform markets to contribute to solving some of the most important environmental and social challenges.

A key element for the success of a landscape initiative is its credibility for buyers and other stakeholders as a (more) sustainable region. This requires solid monitoring and verification of progress towards its sustainability objectives.

Where traditional verification mechanisms focus on a farm-by-farm approach, verification at a landscape level is a different approach, with promising benefits. In the past, IDH has developed the Verified Sourcing Area (VSA) model as a conceptual approach to landscape level verification.

We are now looking for a Program Manager SourceUp, who takes up the challenge to bring this model to life and – together with external partners – establishes routes to verification for Landscape Initiatives.

Your role

As part of the SourceUp team you have a shared responsibility to establish SourceUp as a public-good platform. For this strategic and entrepreneurial challenge you will be working closely together with colleagues, with the SourceUp Global Steering Committee, and with external consultants assigned to assist with the development of crucial parts of the SourceUp model.

Your focus area will be to drive the development, piloting, market acceptance and upscaling of landscape-level verification solutions, covering social, environmental and/or governance topics. To make this happen you will work with Scheme Owners, Audit bodies and other verification organizations, with landscape program teams and with commodity buyers.

Based in Utrecht, Brussels or London, you are part of the global Business Unit Landscapes, reporting to SourceUp’s Head of Development. The position is full-time and requires some international travel.

What you bring

IDH is looking for an organized, self-motivated team player with solid development skills and a strong interest in supply chain sustainability. You are both analytical and practical, able to work independently, learn fast and work in a results-oriented, flexible, and hands-on manner.

Key (joint) responsibilities

  • Innovate fearlessly to deliver on the SourceUp mission
  • Drive the development, piloting, market acceptance and upscaling of landscape-level verification solutions
  • Engage external partners in co-creating and enhancing the SourceUp (verification) toolbox, with the objective to ensure market fit and broad buy-in of relevant stakeholders in landscape initiatives.
  • Strategic guiding of IDH colleagues and external partners in their process of adopting the SourceUp toolbox

We offer you

IDH offers a challenging position within an enthusiastic and passionate team, on strategic and dynamic topics. As an IDH team member you can contribute to positive global sustainability change. The position is for 32-40 hours a week and initially for a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension.

We offer a gross monthly salary of EUR 4,100 – 5,100 (based on 40 hours per week) and solid fringe benefits, including a good pension scheme in The Netherlands.

The position based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, London, the UK or in Brussels, Belgium. Candidates should be nationals of either one of these countries or should have permission to work either of these locations.
