What is the role?

The Contracts Manager will be responsible for the management of existing contractual relationships with NHS commissioning authorities (namely Area Teams in England and Local Health Boards in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland), and will be instrumental in the management of contractual compliance. In addition, the Contracts Manager will proactively protect and grow our dental contracts in line with our commissioning strategy.​​​​​​​

Duties

Management of Existing Contracts

  • To co-ordinate and manage all NHS contract management and NHS stakeholder relationships
  • To co-ordinate Mid and Year End Contractual Performance Reviews, involving Operational and Clinical Team Members – which includes attendance at review meetings, preparation of performance information and recovery/action plans;
  • High profile management of identified Risk Practices working with all stakeholders as required
  • To improve and develop communication with NHS Commissioners and all other NHS departments as required;
  • To manage and maintain internal contractual documentation;
  • To manage the renegotiation and variation of existing contracts in accordance with prevailing regulations and Department of Health guidance;
  • Delivery of contract/contract risk training;
  • To prepare papers and briefings for the Company Board and Executive Directors relating to Existing Contracts, Secured Growth, New Business Developments in all UK regions;
  • To liaise with our Financial teams and Information Management Departments to ensure reports and databases remain up to date;
  • To liaise with External Auditors and Financial Professionals, as part of periodic assessments, audits and due diligence carried out on the business;
  • Close working relationships with Clinical and Legal teams to defend historical claims and pro-actively mitigate risks
  • To contribute to business marketing activities, such as contributing to the organisation’s website content, mail outs and attendance at exhibitions/conferences;
  • To attend evening events and training to keep up to date with developments within the NHS market.
  • To keep appraised of changes in NHS/Government policy, best practice and strategy, to be able to disseminate key information to practice teams, regional management, executive directors and the board.
  • Working with {my}dentist private and specialist team review and support the delivery of non-NHS dental services
  • Mitigate/manage and support tender process for all time limited contracts

  • New Business Development
  • To identify opportunities for Growth and Expansion within the NHS and private markets Market;
  • Very close working relationship with Business Development Team to support on-boarding of acquisition practice contracts;
  • To prepare business cases and applications on behalf of existing practices for the delivery of additional and new dental services;
  • To own and support our tendering team in the preparation of tenders’ submissions for the development of new ‘Greenfield’ practices, Specialist and ‘Flagship’ Service Developments within designated regions, including attendance at formal Interviews and Tender Presentations (working alongside Operational and Clinical Team Members);
  • To manage and participate in the mobilisation of new contracts and the handover these contracts to Practice, Area and Regional Managers and the Integration Teams;
  • To support the development of more specialised service developments (non-core business), such as Minor Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Sedation and Preventative Services – including joint ventures with other health care providers.

  • Motivated as this is a field-based role covering a specific geography, this will involve travel and where necessary night stop overs, self- management and discipline
  • Flexible time management to accommodate out of hours meetings and travel
  • Commercial experience and drive
  • Experience of working in or with NHS Contracting or Commissioning
  • Experience in the preparation of business proposals, applications or tenders for new business​​​​​​​
  • Influencing skills and effective at building relationships
  • Good understanding of financial/budgetary management
