We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Energy Purchasing Manager to shape and execute Fastned’s energy sourcing strategy across multiple countries. At Fastned you can directly contribute to combating climate change by accelerating the transition towards electric mobility. Together with over 150 colleagues (currently 28 nationalities and counting) we have the ambition to build Europe's best fast charging network.

As our Energy Sourcing Manager you will be responsible for elevating the purchasing of electricity at Fastned to the next level. Over the last few years Fastned has procured electricity mainly directly from the spot market, but with growing volumes and higher purchase price volatility it is time for the next step. With this new role we aim to define and execute a purchasing strategy that results in a more stable and predictable purchase price, enabling better forecasting of future pricing, and more stable margins.

The electricity purchasing strategy we envision would include entering into long term agreements with (future) producers of renewable energy (primarily solar and wind), providing pricing stability for parties investing in such projects and by doing so enabling the addition of new renewable capacity. In addition, we aim to manage (part of) the remaining price risk, probably via the use of medium and short term contracts, hedges, batteries etc. Complexities of the job relate to the exponentially growing kWh deliveries of Fastned and our presence in a growing number of countries. Financial analysts estimate Fastned deliveries to multifold in the next couple of years. And that would still be an early stage in this market where we grow from around 2% EV penetration today, towards 100% within a few decades. This is the first full time energy purchasing role within Fastned so we are looking for someone that has ample experience in energy purchasing and is eager to take the lead in defining and executing strategy in a rapidly growing company and market.

Your activities

In this role you will be part of the commercial team, which - amongst other things - is responsible for sales pricing as well as purchasing strategy of our electricity, and how the two interlink with each other. This role will include the following activities:

• Bringing Fastned’s energy purchasing strategy to the next level, starting with defining a strategy, formulating a plan for implementation and all resources needed to put this in effect;
• Work together with Fastned’s data and controlling teams to develop long term and short term volume outlooks that can be used for effective purchasing, trading and hedging;
• Monitoring of the wider energy market to create a view on market trends and their impact on wholesale electricity prices;
• Work together with the Price & Proposition Manager (sales) and network development managers to enable attractive commercial & tender pricing;
• Create a structure to commit to procurement partnerships (including with production facilities still under development), PPAs, hedges and other trades with proper risk management and approvals;
• Optimising Fastned’s energy purchase price on all relevant markets (PPA, futures, spot), and in existing and future countries;
• Liaise with the commercial team and public affairs team to allow them to take into account relevant developments in the energy markets.

Job requirements

We are looking for a smart and ambitious energy purchasing manager who wants to take on a leading role in defining and executing an effective electricity purchasing strategy in an exponentially growing company. In this role you need to be self-starting and have sound business judgement. It will be up to you to define the role and do everything that is needed to make electricity purchasing a success within Fastned. To make this happen, we are looking for the following:

• At least 7 years of experience in electricity purchasing / origination;
• Analytical and commercial mindset;
• Bachelor/Masters degree in a related field (maths, economics, econometrics, or similar);
• Experience in trading of GOOs and/or HBEs is a plus;
• Fluent in English. Other languages such as Dutch, German and/or French are a plus;
• Down to earth mentality, friendly personality, but playing to win;
• Genuine affinity with the energy transition and Fastned’s mission.
