Prysmian is an important player on the field of Energy Cable and Telecommunication Cable.

Telecommunication cable is made and developed within the Telecommunication Group. Within this Group, the Business Unit Optical Fiber is responsible for the production and development of Optical Fiber and related production technology.

One of the basic technologies used for making Optical Fiber and applied by Prysmian, is the so called PCVD technology. PCVD stands for Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition.

As a Scientist you will work inside the PCVD-R&D team located in Eindhoven. The main task of this team is the continuous development and improvement of the PCVD technology. This can be in developing new processes and optimizing existing ones. Main drivers are cost price and product quality.

One of the tasks is the understanding and improvement of the quartz glass deposition model. This model combines the physical parameters essential for the PCVD process and is an R&D tool to further optimize the production process and determine the optimal equipment settings.

You will closely work together with a Senior Scientist, Development Engineer and R&D assistant to test the development and improvement ideas in practice on R&D equipment.

You keep the customer and Management informed on the progress of your work. For this you organize progress meetings and write progress reports.

Characterization of the product in terms of optical parameters is the next step and essential in getting the process and product approved and released.

The basic development of processes takes place within the R&D department. After completion of this phase, the transfer will take place towards Production. Aftercare during the start-up phase in Production is an important part of the job.

You will also improve process control by setting up and introducing new systems and developing the necessary tools.

Tasks & Activities

  • Execute process improvement projects which result in higher yields and cost savings;
  • Take part in multidisciplinary expertise team to give direction to future improvement projects;
  • Set up experiments, analyse, draw conclusions and set recommendations in motion;
  • In multidisciplinary teams, break down control problems into causes and set up and implement an improvement plan for this;
  • Support and instruct production in the use of the process control system;
  • Support production in case of process deviations;
  • Support roll-out projects in production.
