WHAT YOU’LL BE IN CHARGE OF

As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for performance management, promote a culture of engineering excellence, career development and resourcing of +/- 20 engineers. You will help unblock and motivate engineers where possible and grow the teams sustainably. There is no technical responsibility in this role at all. You will be part of the Engineering Management team consisting of 4 other Engineering Managers, who are reporting into the Head of Engineering, who reports to the CTO.

THIS IS HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE

• Line manages engineers across 4-5 product teams
• Leverage your technical background to support your teams
• Facilitate Tech Talks, Hackathons, Guilds in order to foster a Craftspersonship culture
• Work closely with product owners on the correct resourcing and skills pool available to their product cells
• Work with engineering management to look at resourcing and skills across the whole department
• Work with the engineering management team to create career paths for the whole department
• Work with the engineering management team to improve tooling and processes (i.e. onboarding, performance review) for all our engineers
• Help engineers grow in the direction they want in their career paths and recommend suitable training
• Make a hiring plan with input from the portfolio manager and technical architect

THIS IS WHO YOU ARE

• Someone with a hands-on mentality
• Coming from a technical background with experience as a software engineer
• Not afraid of working in an environment where not all processes and tools are set up and see it as a challenge to help set up and manage those
• Someone with at least 2 years of managing teams
• A strong communicator and natural, empathic leader
• Experience in writing process and reports and enjoys doing it
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Someone that has experience with working in a Kanban environment is advantageous
• Not being afraid to change teams to make data-driven decisions is advantageous
• Excited about helping Shell achieve the target to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050
