Are you passionate about finance and do you have an eye for detail? Would you like to learn new skills while contributing to our work to end child exploitation? Become an intern at the Finance Team of Terre des Hommes!

About Terre des Hommes

Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to prevent child exploitation, to remove children from exploitative situations, and to ensure that these children are able to continue their development in a safe environment.

Terre des Hommes Netherlands focuses on Sexual Exploitation of Children (SEC), the Worst Forms of Child Labour, Child Trafficking and Migration, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and on Child Protection in Humanitarian Crisis. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes Netherlands is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and Africa. Terre des Hommes Netherlands also advocates for policy change at the European Union (EU) level and country level for better policies tackling child exploitation

Position within the organisation

The Finance Intern works within the Head Office (HO) finance team together with a financial controller, an assistant controller and a finance officer. So great opportunities to learn.

Goal of this internship

During this internship you will get the opportunity to work along with the finance department. You will support and work together with the team to migrate all financial data of Terre des Hommes independent shops (about 30) to a different accounting software, from Visma to Exact. This may also involve coordination with the treasurers in our shops to help them with this migration.

Secondly, the finance department is writing a finance manual this year. During your internship you can help do this writing. By conducting interviews with the team to learn the processes and then document them.

Thirdly, uploading invoices and payments for processing is part of this internship.

  • Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
  • File all supporting documents for administration and projects and ensure the filing system of the organization is in order.
  • Coordinate with Terre des Hommes country offices to improve consistency across the organization.
  • Assist in office administration, e.g filling, photo copying, etc.
  • Assist in preparing supporting information for project audits.
  • Perform any other duties that come up.

What do you bring?

  • Studying a Bachelor's Degree in finance, economics, accounting or any other relevant degree.
  • Knowledge of Exact
  • Fluent in English and Dutch
  • Possessing an eye for detail and you work precisely

What do we offer?

  • An inspiring and challenging internship in which you can learn a lot and get responsibility to implement your own tasks (under supervision of the finance team)
  • Period: minimum of 4 months, 28-36 hours per week
  • Many very knowledgeable and driven international colleagues
  • An internship allowance (€300 per month based on 36 hours per week). Please note that you need to be registered with a University or School (BA or MA programme) in order to receive this allowance
