Legal Counsel – Privacy

As the Legal Counsel – Privacy you will be responsible for participating in the development of group-wide privacy and data protection policies and practices as well as their implementation across the business groups.

In addition, you will be responsible for advising on legal and strategic matters regarding privacy/data protection, as well as for reviewing the privacy practices with regard to all relevant products, services, processes, solutions and systems to ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws. You will apply knowledge of international privacy laws and regulations to act as privacy legal advisor to DEPT®. This position requires core legal knowledge, reasoning and judgment, combined with strong written and verbal communication skills and a practical, solution-oriented mindset.

For this role we're looking for somebody with fluency in Dutch.

Responsibilities:

• Provide privacy legal expertise, guidance and direct support for operational execution including e.g., preparing and maintaining our data processing records (controller and processor), preparing, reviewing and advising on data processing agreements entered into with customers, and performing risk assessments when required;
• Draft and support the implementation of privacy policies, privacy notices, consent statements, data retention standards and other privacy compliance controls within the group. This also necessitates keeping abreast of changes in the privacy and data protection landscape, understanding implications of such changes on the business, advising on risks and appropriate mitigations as required to ensure business continuity without compromising privacy compliance;
• Identify specific training needs, create, review and/or tailor and deliver privacy training to business teams;
• Provide privacy compliance support in case of personal data breaches;
• Provide privacy compliance support for the fulfillment of data subject requests (or privacy-related complaints);
• Work effectively with any internal stakeholders necessary to fulfill the above tasks.

You will be part of the global legal team, and will closely collaborate with other legal counsels and internal stakeholders. You will report to the General Counsel of DEPT®.

You:

• EU LLM
• A minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience with a focus on privacy and data protection;
• Comprehensive knowledge of EU data protection regulatory requirements. Knowledge of U.S. data protection regulatory requirements is considered a plus;
• Experience advising in the digital marketing, e-commerce and advertising technology space;
• Ability to work on complex matters independently, as well as in a team, and propose creative solutions in challenging situations.
• Ability and willingness to take practical, and if necessary, bold decisions under time pressure;
• Excellent client management, ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (internal and external) and strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Dutch;
• Ability to organize and prioritize, with a focus on continuous improvement in privacy related processes and operations;
• Strong-drive, process-oriented and resilient attitude.
