Your opportunity

Deloitte are looking for an experienced Linux support engineer to join a wider, established server support team and be responsible for managing the Deloitte Linux estate in line with Deloitte global standards. Also, to collaborate with other operations resources to continually develop automation strategies and deployment processes. You will be willing to roll your sleeves up, get stuck in and become an integral part of the team, making every problem of the platform a problem of your own and solving them accordingly.

Your role

  • Working with other IT teams across traditional on-premise and Cloud environments you’ll ensure close alignment and engagement, not only supporting our existing Linux Infrastructure but also with implementing new enhancements to further strengthen our operational and security resilience.
  • Provide hands on technical support and ensure compliance with Deloitte’s technical and security standards
  • Work with systems integration to continually build automation for the Linux estate (to include hardening standard and approved OS versions)
  • Deploy and run monitoring and configuration tools required to effectively manage the estate/ develop and implement reporting to provide oversight and governance.
  • Deploy missing security agents to all Linux servers and ensure servers adhere to approved hardening standards and to approved OS versions roadmaps.
  • Work with operational resources to resolve technical issues associated with the operating system’s servers, hardware, and apps
  • Assist Linux platform owners with application migrations
  • Provide training to the wider server support team
  • Document and update all relevant documentation.
  • You will need an enthusiastic and hands on approach and be prepared to challenge and investigate to achieve the required results.

Location: The role is open for people to apply from any UK location and you can be based from one of our many UK offices outside of London.

Work pattern: This is a permanent opportunity. The role can be worked on a full-time basis.

Your professional experience

  • Experience with Linux servers in on-premise virtualised environments and (Cloud AWS & Azure) across all OS distros including Red hat, Ubuntu, SuSe and CentOS
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages (i.e., Python, Bash, Perl, Ruby), load balancing and firewalls.
  • Experience with configuration management and application deployment software such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef and BigFix
  • Previous experience of working within a structured IT environment (incident management, change management, problem management etc.)
  • Experience with managing Linux running on Hyper-V and VMware
  • Strong self-starter and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to credibly coordinate between technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a dynamic, evolving environment.

Desirable

  • Familiar with working as part of a geographically dispersed team.
