About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Lockheed Martin team in Havant, Hampshire as a Lead Systems Engineer.

You will work within the Systems Solutions engineering team with particular focus on Parcel processing solutions. Lockheed Martin are responsible for developing and maintaining the Artificial Intelligence software that runs the automated Postal Sorting capabilities for Royal Mail & PostNord.

In addition, you will have opportunities to work both on our existing portfolio of programmes and future capabilities, which we want you to help shape.

You will primarily be home based with occasional travel to the Havant offices and customer sites. This is a varied role, so if you have an inquisitive mind and confidence in your technical leadership capabilities, coupled with a willingness to learn then this role would be perfect for you.

A day in the life of the Lead Systems Engineer could include:

  • In Product Owner role – leading on the requirements capture, then negotiating the backlog with customer and internal teams.
  • In solution design role – using a model based approach, create innovative solutions and approaches to deploying new capabilities. All in a challenging non-functional environment.
  • Review and advise on system test plans and acceptance test documentation
  • Modelling and Systems design
  • When supporting programme management – writing proposals and estimating work packages. Lead on the document creation and presentation for technical reviews.
  • As the customers technical conscience – being proactive by promoting ongoing service improvements and adaptations that positively impact the customers experience.
  • In Operational Support role – leading a cross discipline team in service reviews/root-cause analysis. Ensuring the systems engineering models are fit for purpose.
  • Manage your time effectively to develop effective solutions to cost and quality targets
  • Any additional Programme related tasks assigned that are within area of expertise, competence and skill set.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and suppliers across all levels of the organisation both internally and with the customer

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Track record of delivering Agile programmes to meet agreed cost and schedule commitments.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role, with the ability to form strong customer relationships, capture customer goals (e.g. as user stories, requirements, or white papers), and lead demonstration and acceptance.
  • Familiarity of IT systems from an operational and service delivery perspective.
  • Application of Model Based Engineering frameworks. (TOGAF, UML/SysML)
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to write in a clear and concise manner.
  • Positive attitude, and willingness to get involved with tasks across the System Engineering lifecycle
  • The ability to manage tasks and priorities to ensure that assigned workload is delivered when required.
