Job Summary

With direct supervision, our engineering interns and co-ops will participate in the design and evaluation of production processes for both new and existing components, or a system of components, provide improvements in cost, enhance performance, create and conduct product testing procedures, or facilitate manufacturing operations using fundamental principles of mechanical, industrial, or other engineering disciplines.
Our Summer Interns commit to a 12 week internship starting in June and are expected to work 40 hours a week. Summer Interns are invited to participate in the Internship Development Program which consists of three virtual sessions (June, July, & August) with all US interns focusing on professional leadership development. Our Annual Interns commit to a full year of employment starting any time outside of the summer months and are expected to work 15 – 20 hours a week during the academic year and then 40 hours a week through summer months over a 12 week period. Annual interns are invited to participate in the Internship Development Program which consists of three virtual sessions (June, July & August) with all US interns focusing on professional leadership development. Our Co-Op opportunities expect the student to commit to a minimum of a semester starting in January, June, or August and are expected to work 40 hours a week. GKN Aerospace will work with you on an individual basis to ensure we meet the structured & specific requirements of your co-op from your university.

Job Responsibilities

  • Working on projects and supporting a team to find the best solutions
  • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Helping to maintain performance within your team and for GKN as a company
  • Building relationships both within GKN and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver excellence
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Responsible for technical support of manufacturing development and integration for production.
  • Utilize root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
  • Design these processes with a high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to demonstrate as such. Accountable for product development, first article development, configuration changes, build process definition and implementation.
  • Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers. Facilitate improvements in production processes by implementing Lean initiatives and leaning forward.
  • All other duties as assigned by Manager.

Job Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in an engineering field such as: Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field.
  • Must have completed your sophomore year or later in your current program.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Capability to work effectively in a variety of engineering and manufacturing assignments.
  • Keen interest in the Aerospace Manufacturing industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications.
  • Team player with excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Effective communication and writing skills. Attention to detail is critical.
  • Enthusiasm for continuous personal development and leadership opportunities.
  • Local candidates only (relocation, work sponsorship and/or housing not available).
  • Must be a US Citizen due to program security clearance requirements and/or SSA requirements.
