What you’ll be responsible for as an SRE Engineer

As a Site Reliability Engineer in albelli-Photobox you will play a critical role in the delivery and optimisation of our Web, eCommerce and Factory infrastructures.

The SRE team is responsible for the end-to-end health of our systems and services that are required to be available 24x7. You will have direct communication lines to solution architects and software engineers operating in an agile environment to deliver improvements in service availability, performance, security and cost.

Being a mid-level engineer, you will be expected to work closely with colleagues in Software Engineering, Product Management and Architecture. You must be able to work as part of a team or independently and be able to effectively prioritise work items.

The impact you’ll make:

  • Contribute to the design, build and operational management of a highly scalable, secure and available infrastructure that enable the albelli-Photobox platforms to operate 24x7.
  • Build and configuration of tools to enable automated deployment, management and monitoring of our online services
  • Ensure that the albelli-Photobox infrastructure platforms are secure and can scale rapidly to support growth in transaction volumes during periods of peak business.
  • Limit or eliminate exposure to single points of failure
  • Design and build infrastructure platforms with the highest levels of security.
  • Respond swiftly to new and emerging security threats and vulnerabilities
  • Create tools and automated workflow capabilities to enable our software engineers to test and promote code across the different environments and into production with maximum velocity
  • Work to optimise our cloud spend in order to push costs, and in particular unnecessary costs down.
  • Promote, document and implement systems infrastructure best practices
  • Provide support during out of hours and on call as required by the business

Requirements

  • Minimum experience needed:
  • Proven experience running services in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud
  • Hands-on experience with at least one programming language: Node.js, Python, C#, Java
  • Proven experience of CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, Gitlab or GitHub Actions
  • Even better if you have experience with:
  • Experience working Docker & Kubernetes
  • You understand serverless technologies including Lambda, DynamoDB and/or their other providers’ equivalents
  • Experience of monitoring and alerting services such as Sensu & Prometheus/Grafana
  • Knowledge of log aggregation solutions such as Elasticsearch, Splunk or equivalents
  • Knowledge of Application Performance Management (APM) tools such as NewRelic, AppDynamics or Dynatrace
  • Experience of Automation/Configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef & Puppet
