Software Engineer – Governance Engineering – London

Wise is one the fastest growing companies in Europe and we’re on a mission: to make money without borders the new normal. We’ve got 13 million customers across the globe. We transferred over £54 billion in the Financial Year 2021 alone, and we’re growing. Fast.

Current banking systems don’t let us send, spend or receive money across borders easily. Or quickly. Or cheaply.

So, we’re building a new one.

Our Governance Engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining the services that help ensure Wise’s cloud infrastructure meets all the necessary compliance and governance requirements for a growing FinTech business. To this end you will be working with us to develop tooling and provide hands-on technical expertise to design, deploy, and optimise how our infrastructure is provisioned and managed in a compliant and cost-effective way on AWS and possibly other major cloud providers.

We operate on a strong belief in automation, programmatic implementation, and repeatable design patterns. We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem, but also follow through and help implement the design; drawing on the resources across the rest of the platform.

Technical Specifics

  • Hands-on software engineer – will be building the platform and applying best SDLC practices (development, testing, applications, monitoring)
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying cloud-based solutions architectures
  • Software development in preferably Golang, Java, or Python but experience with other programming languages is welcome too
  • Experience with DevOps practices including infrastructure as code, continuous integration and automated deployment.

Any of the additional would also be amazing!

  • Good knowledge of observability stacks and tooling
  • Good knowledge of cloud networking and security
  • Using configuration management or software delivery platforms to manage systems
  • Good discipline and skill in producing written documentation and diagrams
  • Experience managing authentication and authorization across a large organisation including handling user lifecycles and role-based access control
  • Cloud cost management
  • Experience working in regulated businesses, PCI etc

We’re making a positive, irreversible change in the world of finance. Together.
People on every continent around the world are choosing TransferWise to help them live, travel and work internationally. We’re the fairest, easiest way to send money overseas.
Built by and for people who live global lives, we make sending money abroad up to 8 times cheaper than the bank. This is money without borders - instant, convenient, transparent and eventually free.
