Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.

What will you do as a BI Engineer?

As a BI Developer, you will work in the data team at Lightyear and will be an essential link between our innovative Scrum teams.

Our Data team consists of experts in the field of Data Engineering and Analytics, software development, and Business analytics. That is why it is valuable that you are not only passionate about BI but data in the broadest sense of the word. You will work with the team to further the data-driven culture at Lightyear and establish BI best practices. A use case you will work on will be predictive analysis: forecasting who will buy which car and when a vehicle will be sold.

The role is a technical but business-oriented role requiring knowledge of data modeling & SQL, a good understanding of database architecture, and the ability to translate business problems into data solutions.

BI Developers use business intelligence software and data analytics to interpret and display data to guide business strategies. Your main goal is to help us translate statistics and row data into meaningful business information for business planning. As BI Engineer you will become part of the IT Team. This team provides the organization with flexible and reliable services which enables all users to make most efficient usage of their personal resources.

As a BI Engineer you have the following tasks & responsibilities:

  • Responsible for BI Infrastructure, modeling data, and Business Intelligence adoption within teams
  • Designing, developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions. Crafting and executing queries upon request for data. Presenting information through reports and visualization
  • Develop logical data models

  • Develop intuitive dashboards that help the teams to make business decisions (and don't just look nice)
  • Help and train colleagues to understand the BI Platform such that they can create reports themselves - enabling self-service analytics

Sounds super exciting, doesn’t it? To give you an idea on what the role looks like in practice we’d like to take you along into an average day. You will start the day with a stand-up with the development team to learn how everybody is doing, what developments they are preparing, and to get an update on the progress from yesterday.

After this you have organized a community meeting with all other team members, to share interesting topics about developments you see in software-/ data engineering and to discuss if there are technologies or practices we’d like to implement ourselves.

Last thing before lunch it’s time to put the hammer down and translate statistics into meaningful business information for our business planning.

In the afternoon it’s time for making decisions about how we should run in the present day, predict what might happen in the future or how we can move forward. Luckily today is also a friday so after the session you and the team join our friday drinks for some well-earned ‘bitterballen’ and a refreshing (non-alcoholic) beer!

Did we trigger your enthusiasm? Let’s see if you have what it takes!

As Lightyear is still a young company you have plenty of opportunity to make your mark in our processes. You regularly have discussions with relevant stakeholders and the IT Team. Of course, when you are heading off to our epic Friday afternoon drinks at the end of the week, you will be having a highly contributed feeling about your achieved results! Building the way forward for Lightyear.
