Purpose of Role

The Finance Business Partner is responsible for delivering high quality Financial Planning & Analysis, Corporate Finance oversight and Insight reporting to the Investment business team. This reporting provides the Executive and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) with the appreciation and understanding to inform decision making and enhance business performance of the Investment portfolio.

GPUK’s Investment business is the fastest growing area within the UK urban property business, having deployed c.£300m of capital in the past 12 months and now has c.£800m of assets under management, as well as a number residential land promotion/trading projects. The team invests in regional office properties, manages Liverpool ONE and is looking to increase its exposure to residential trading opportunities over the coming years.

Working closely with the Finance and Investment teams, the candidate should be a confident communicator, able to skilfully summarise complex issues and influence senior stakeholders. The ability to develop and maintain strong relationships is therefore critical.

The role plays a key part in understanding the drivers of growth and profitability for the Investment business, whose objectives are to grow their contribution to GPUK’s sustainability and recurring income targets. To perform effectively, the successful candidate requires strong time management, prioritisation and a commitment to creatively identifying and realising efficiencies through performance improvement. This is an excellent opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in a large, multi-sector property business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effective partnering with the Investment business team, being a critical and highly valued friend, helping the team to understand, communicate and enhance their performance and the risks and opportunities in achieving it.
  • Monitor and control key data for projects, ensuring it is stored for these projects is accurate. Ensure consistency of data across various business systems.
  • Provide deep insight into the drivers of business performance as well as the risk and opportunities that might impact it, providing analysis that informs decision making and drives value.
  • Produce quarterly forecast and budget submissions for the team and communicate comparisons to actual performance. Ensure business stakeholders understand and own their numbers in order to facilitate high-quality discussions, at team and executive level.
  • Assist with appraisals of new projects, challenging assumptions and suggesting areas for improvement.
  • Responsible for provision of information to the Central Reporting, Tax, Legal, Sustainability & Innovation and Treasury teams as and when required.

Key Relationships

  • The Finance Business Partner will report to the Head of Finance and Senior Business Partner - Investment, providing confidence and assurance that the Investment team’s forecasting, budgeting and insight reporting is being completed to a high standard. The role will work closely with the other members of the GPUK Finance team, including the Finance Centre (Overheads, Control and Reporting), the Finance Analyst community, Research and Tax teams.
  • The role is closely aligned to the activities of the Investment business team, working as a trusted advisor and critical friend to the Senior Leadership Team. Building and maintaining strong relationships with the team will be essential to the success of the role.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (3+ years PQE) or equivalent capabilities obtained through experience
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication with clarity and simplicity
  • A self-starter with a proactive, common-sense approach
  • Highly diligent with a strong attention to detail, but able to step back and see the bigger picture
  • An enquiring mind, always looking to learn, improve and innovate
  • Skillful manager of stakeholder relationships, able to build and maintain strong networks, whilst willing to apply challenge where appropriate
  • Sustainability - implements and encourages others to improve sustainability performance
  • Genuine interest in property and specifically GPUK’s portfolio (previous experience in a property business would be useful, but not essential)

Please note that this is a 12 month fixed term contract role to cover a period of maternity leave within the team
