We are seeking highly motivated individuals with exceptional academics, well-developed practical skills and an affinity for financial markets to join as Junior Quants and Quants. Individuals of varying levels of experience (across both professional work experience and education levels from Bachelors to PhD level) will be considered and matched to a team according to their skillset, interest and current hiring needs.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Researching, developing and implementing dynamic alpha strategies
  • Presenting new/updated research within AHL and across Man Group
  • Contributing to AHL’s overall research effort by interacting with and collaborating with other research teams
  • Following industry and academic literature for relevant innovations and suggest how Man/AHL could profit from it
  • Carrying out the daily investment management functions, reviewing trades, portfolio risks etc.
  • Producing performance analysis of strategies
  • Presenting new/updated research within AHL and across Man Group
  • Explaining details of strategies to existing and potential clients
  • Producing bespoke research in response to client requests

Technology and Business Skills

  • Strong academic record and a degree (Bachelors or Masters) with high mathematical, statistical or computing content e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or Physics from a reputable university
  • A PhD degree is a distinct advantage for certain research teams however not a requirement for others
  • A demonstrable and strong interest in Finance
  • Understanding of the underlying structures and behaviours of the financial markets
  • Proficient programming ability. Ability to write clear, well documented and scalable code
  • Experience with a computing language such as Python/MATLAB/R and toolkits such as numpy/pandas/sklearn/etc would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration across investment management teams and regions
  • A desire to tackle hard real-world research problems and prior experience of such real-world problems and data.
  • Awareness of various statistical and mathematical tools and techniques, and the ability to select the appropriate ones to use in different circumstances
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and informative technical reports and proposals
  • Ability to discuss and present complex ideas in an intuitive, easy to follow way
  • A hands-on approach with a willingness to get involved in multiple projects

In addition, whilst we are open to varying levels of experience, a successful candidate would ideally have experience or knowledge in at least one of the following areas as evidenced by prior work experience, internships, academic projects or similar.

Core Strategies

The Man AHL Core Strategies team is ideal for those looking to bring disruptive new techniques to systematic investing and deliver alpha at scale. This exciting team offers ample opportunities to research, create and manage high-capacity investment strategies and products. Your responsibilities will include the discovery of new directional signals and alternative risk premia, risk management and risk mitigation techniques, all designed in response to client demands. You will also have the chance to contribute to academic research papers and journal submissions.

Equities

We are looking for investment researchers and analysts to join the Man AHL Equities team. This is an exciting opportunity to build a profitable, sizeable and highly competitive systematic equities investment business. As part of the team, you will be able to take ownership of the full portfolio management process from research to creation to management of systematic equity strategies.

Fast Trading Strategies

The roles within the Man AHL Fast Trading team are focused on the discovery of short-term signals in liquid markets to deliver fast frequency alpha in the Man AHL funds. As part of the team, you will have the chance to help design the infrastructure between signals and trade execution to reduce slippage and improve automation through machine learning and quantitative finance methods. Responsibilities will also include how signals are packaged into trades, netted and their overall style of execution.

Portfolio Management

As part of the Man AHL Portfolio Management team, you will be responsible for applying cutting-edge research to the Man AHL product suite. Across our flagship fund range, you will provide input to fund allocations at the strategy level as well as individual prediction signals. You will also have the opportunity to develop client-facing research alongside overall investment management responsibilities. Those working on the Man AHL futures platform can build signal/fund frameworks and develop monitoring systems to ensure continued success.

Specialist Strategies

The roles within the Man AHL Specialist Strategies offer the chance to develop highly specialised investment skills designed to find atypical sources alpha. This fast-paced team cover multiple strategy styles including Alternative Markets, Credit, Machine Learning or Volatility. Your responsibilities will include building high-conviction content in these specialist areas, monitoring portfolio design and performance, and testing new investment research ideas.
