Where you fit in

You will be part of the Trading & Supply Products (TSP) organization which is at the heart of Shell’s Downstream business. She functions as the integrator for Shell to enable stronger end-to-end value delivery. We do so through managing and optimizing the physical supply chain as well as creating value though proprietary trading. Working closely with our partner businesses, we create more integrated value for Shell by maximizing the overall value potential across different lines of business and portfolios by delivering the right product to the right place on time at the maximum margin potential.

Trading & Supply, in close partnership with the Downstream, is integral to the aspiration to grow its position as a market leader in Biofuels and Hydro-processed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA), by securing a sizeable and sustainable portfolio of active feedstock positions through our established Global Trading Network, the development of new supply infrastructure, while ensuring the business continues to evolve with biofuels legislation, international trade policies and market developments.

What’s the role?

Within the Trading & Supply’s Low Carbon Fuels (LCF) group, you will be responsible for HEFA feedstock projects in the growing European markets. You will report into the global team lead for HEFA projects globally and be part of a tight-knit global feedstock trading team.

Your accountabilities will include:

  • Project manage the development of a new HEFA feedstock business within Trading & Supply Low Carbon Fuels, ensuring feedstock is available for Shell’s global emerging HEFA footprint and co-processing assets.
  • Act as the Trading & Supply focal point for all HEFA related projects located in Europe, including but not limited to, Shell’s new biorefinery at the Energy & Chemicals Park Rotterdam, which is currently under construction.
  • Working closely with the LCF Trading team in Europe, and Feedstock Originators globally, to scope long-term strategic partnerships with key feedstock suppliers to create a solid fundament in the sourcing strategy to supply Shell’s newly invested HEFA production facilities.
  • Contribute to the development of efficient supply chains for Used Cooking Oils, Tallow and Novel feedstock for optimized supply into Shell’s HEFA portfolio in Europe.
  • Collecting, understanding and adding value to information to allow steering towards all of the internal interfaces, and to a number of external counterparties as well to which the goal is to drive the best value for all the molecules within the supply chain.
  • Closely liaising with the HEFA feedstock optimization manager on sourcing requirements and alignment with the overarching feedstock strategy, to ensure full operational readiness of the Trading & Supply organization when assets come online.
  • Interfacing closely with the Trading & Supply Leadership and stakeholders from across Shell classes of business to ensure joined-up decision making and operational readiness for start-up (e.g. Sectors & Decarbonization, Chemicals & Products).

This role may grow in scope when Shell decides to grow its HEFA feedstock footprint further through other HEFA investments in Europe. This will increase size and complexity of international supply chains even further but will also create options for value creation in our supply chains through flexibility and optimization of international feedstock flows.

What we need from you

The chosen candidate needs to have a proven track record and experience in compliance, business process design and controls, people management, familiarity with physical the trading business and project management. Specifically:

  • Previous experience in developing feedstock supply for a large asset within a technical/manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Used Cooking Oil, Tallow and other Renewable Energy Directive (RED) Annex 9 biofuels feedstock and supply chains.
  • Proven project management competencies and ability to develop project plans to meet internal stage-gate requirements for project development.
  • Previous experience in Supply (Economics & Scheduling), Manufacturing (Oil Movements & Product Quality), Chemicals and/or Trading (Storage, Logistics); deep understanding of refinery economics and fuels blending is essential.
  • Good working knowledge of supply optimization models (e.g. Linear Programming).
  • The incumbent will need strong stakeholder management skills and commercial acumen to drive enterprise first decision-making across the value chain.
  • Broad and robust knowledge of the global regulatory environment for feedstocks and biofuels.
  • Understanding of product quality constraints within production assets and pre-treatment options for HEFA feedstocks.
  • Strong commercial acumen and delivery focus with deep interest in the trading business and biofuels. Highly motivated with self-starter mentality, strong team player.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have experience working in more than one region of the world and have experience of developing supply chains in Europe.
