Our Climate Change team in Capital Markets...

Whilst we all get to grips with the changing working environment that 2020 and 2021 has brought with it, the Capital Markets business unit is working with changing customer expectations, continued regulatory pressures and the need for technological advancements all whilst staying competitive. As a result, change continues at pace.

We are at the forefront of advising our clients across the climate agenda, having built a market leading climate model focused on physical and transition risk impacts. Our recently announced partnership with Blackrock opens-up global opportunities to help our clients on defining their Environmental, Societal and Governance (ESG) strategy.

We work on some of the most cutting-edge initiatives in Financial Services, helping our clients navigate this changing market and working environment. This means we are often right in the thick of it, on innovative and exciting engagements, powering the growth of our Capital Markets consultancy team.

What will you be doing?

On joining our Capital Markets Climate Change team, you could be working across a breadth of global clients advising them of how climate change and ESG changes their business strategy.

Example projects include:

  • Defining a bank’s net zero strategy from baselining and projecting….. to assessing the business impacts on counteparties and sectors.Advising the CEO leadership team on the trade-offs and external messaging
  • Running multi-jurisdictional climate stress tests such as the UK CBES and HKMA
  • Defining strategic and transition state operating models impacted by climate change and ESG
  • Training Boards, Exec teams and front office staff on climate
  • Integrating climate change into key user journeys e.g. customer onboarding, annual credit processes, risk assessment cycles

So, what are we looking for?

We recruit individuals at all levels based on merit. Don't worry about 'fitting into a quota'; if you can demonstrate some of the skills we are after we would love to hear from you. Some of the key sills we are looking for:

We are looking for individuals with experience in the capital markets sector, with experiences across a number of the following:

  • Has demonstrable, previous experience of having worked on other regulatory change programmes impacting the capital markets sector
  • Sustainable finance and investing, including fund strategy and capital formation
  • Understands carbon markets and the present and future impacts on investing
  • ESG Investment themes and how to apply them to a broader investment banking strategy
  • Has a deep understanding of the trading eco-system from a business, operations and risk perspective
  • Understands climate risk (physical and transition) and the impact that climate change would have on a wealth and asset management company
  • Knowledge of relationship between products, treasury and flow of the money within and across the trading sector and how climate change accountabilities map across different players in the market
  • An understanding of various frameworks (e.g. SBTi, Net Zero Asset Owners alliance, SFDR TCFD, IIGCC)
  • Has strong understanding of how credit rating and probability of default drives a company’s financial profile and future strategy
  • Strong network of colleagues, clients and peers in the industry

Skills and capabilities:

  • Can create a sustainability and portfolio optimisation strategy based on climate risk scenario modelling and net zero pathways
  • Stress testing / risk/ climate risk scenario processes and operating models
  • Strong analytical background (e.g. with experience in accounting, data modelling – has ability to translate climate change impact on company’s balance sheet and advise companies on how this translate into their business strategy)
  • Able to analyse climate impact data and advise on the potential impact of climate change on a company’s portfolio
  • Has ability to analyse and advise on credibility of transition plans based on analytics and credible net zero transition pathways
  • Has appreciation of how different sectors (e.g. utilities, oil and gas, automotive and airlines) are impacted by climate change risk
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills up to a senior level, Chief Investment Officer, COO, CRO, CFO
  • Ability to tackle ambiguous problems and create a pragmatic approach to solve them
  • A desire to collaborate and work with others to get the best outcomes for our clients
