About this role

BT has set out on of one of the largest data transformation programmes in the UK in partnership with Google. Our business units have incredibly rich data sets that are evolving rapidly as we look to deliver the next generation of Digital products and services to our customers. It doesn’t matter where we look there is not a unit or process that will not benefit from using Data & Analytics, from simple management information reports through to interactive & proactive marketing messages provided to support key business applications through our single version of the truth.

Our organisation is split into external facing Business Units (Consumer, Global, Enterprise) and internal facing Business Units (Group, Networks, Digital). This role is to be the “go-to” Data expert for one of these business units, dependent on the best fit. It is going to be one of the most challenging and rewarding roles in the team as you will collaborate with and influence, Director level stakeholders as we look to create a near real time view of our core integrated information assets with a rich set of self-service and operational analytics services that will meet the ongoing changing needs of the entire business.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Define and develop a Data & Analytics architecture capability for a Business Unit.
  • Drive adoption of the Data architecture and be the ‘go-to’ Data expert for a Business Unit. For example by publishing internal & external articles on Analytics topics.
  • Establish appropriate communication strategy for informing the business of new capabilities, services and technology offerings
  • Establish the data architecture, information model, standards, policies and procedures for a Business Unit as needed to ensure consistency and compliance within a governance framework.
  • Key contributor to Data & Analytics working group across the business and contribute to BT Academy & Professional community.
  • Develop 5 year horizon data capability roadmaps for a Business Unit.
  • Collaborate with Data & Analytics specialist EA (Data fabric, Data platform and Analytics & AI services) along with Data & Analytics solution architects to bring the data architecture to life and transform a Business Unit.
  • Keep up to date with all new services from our Data & Analytics technology vendors and establish how they can be used within the business
  • Define patterns for analytics and data platform simplification and abstraction.
  • Establish a framework for using Analytics across a Business Unit

You'll have the following skills & experience

Skills required for the job:

  • Architectural Leadership: Clear experience in demonstrating Enterprise Architecture and Data Technology Leadership in multiple business sectors; at Very Large scale.
  • Be able to clearly articulate complex topics to an array of stakeholders across the business and technical communities.
  • Vendor management: Established external partner network especially with key Analytics & Data platform Technology vendors
  • Strategy: Ability to develop strategies which including horizon scanning, best practice, and clear roadmaps to delivery.
  • Technology Choice: Be able to go Toe-to-Toe with the best people from our Data & Analytics engineering and technology vendors to stay ahead of new capabilities & services
  • In-Depth knowledge of Data Technologies including Business Intelligence, AI/ML, Data Management, Data Lake / Data Warehouse, Data Fabric and Data Governance.
  • Engineering: Ability to understand and work with engineering level data teams.
  • Data Governance: Experience of working with Data Privacy Offices
  • SecOps/InfoSEC: Converse and present to design board authorities
  • Data as a Service Modern Architecture Methods, Approaches and Ways of Working

Experience you would be expected to have

  • Clearly demonstrated Enterprise Architecture experience partnering stakeholders at Director/MD Level.
  • Experience across multiple sectors defining and delivering enterprise-level Data & Analytics solutions.
  • Have set and driven an ambitious data architecture vision with a collaborative, anti-fragile and passion to learn for one of the most ambitious very large-scale data transformations in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience of large-scale transformation programmes with a mix of Legacy, New and Emerging technologies – especially implementing cloud analytics (GCP desirable) based architecture to drive transform an Enterprise
  • Clearly demonstrated understanding of the current and emerging technology landscape and how it can be used
  • Experience of Service Design, Benefit Modelling, Agile (especially SAFe) & Lean Start-up, CI, CD, Data & Analytics Ops.
  • Experience of procuring new technologies and solutions from external parties
  • Understanding of emerging opportunities and models for the adoption of Analytics capabilities
  • Enterprise and Business Architecture: Experience in developing Benefit Realisation, Evolutionary architecture and outcome-based models including the development of business
  • Experience of CI/CD & Data / Analytics Ops approaches and practical implementations
  • Experience in Data & Analytics models, patterns, techniques and approaches, including Self-service Analytics, Data Integration, Data Warehousing, AI/ML & data-driven Marketing.
