Our Private Client Team works with individuals, trustees, partnerships, sole traders and family businesses in managing their tax affairs both on the compliance side and in relation to additional advisory matters. We work closely with colleagues across the firm to provide a joined-up service to owner managed businesses and family offices combining expertise in accounting, audit and all relevant taxes.

About the job

As a result of the firm’s sustained success, we are looking to make an addition to our Private Client Team at the level of experienced Manager or Associate Director. You may be based in proximity to any one of our North-West offices, such as Chester, Crewe, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston or Stoke. The purpose of this opportunity is to manage and deliver a thorough and high-quality advisory service to a range of clients, primarily focusing on family businesses and HNWI. This will include working on a variety of planning projects and technical assignments, for example the selling and purchasing of businesses from the view of the owner(s). You will be supported by a first-class team and have the opportunity to get involved in business development and proposals should you wish.

  • Acting as the main point of contact on tax only cases for the firm and respond quickly to clients.
  • Liaising with clients throughout the year and practising the principles of excellent client service at all times.
  • Identifying and advising on tax planning opportunities.
  • Leading and undertaking specialist technical assignments as required.
  • Working alongside Partners and/or Directors to help develop new business within the team and build on existing relationships.
  • Managing assignments in accordance with the firm’s standard procedures and confirming arrangements with the client, including likely costs and billing arrangements.
  • Ensuring the work meets targeted recovery and billing clients on a timely basis.
  • Ensuring appropriate liaison takes place with all other departments, and all potential client needs are identified and serviced accordingly.
  • Developing a detailed knowledge of the firm’s specialist services and undertaking special work in response to client needs where appropriate.
  • Maintaining an advanced level of technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses and fulfilling professional bodies’ CPD requirements.
  • Acting as people manager to junior staff, including taking an active role in their development and appraisals.
  • Briefing junior staff on the client’s business and the pre-assignment instructions; supervising and controlling the completion of work; and undertaking ‘on the job’ training where necessary.
  • Attending staff meetings and training as required.
  • Maintaining an awareness and observation of Health and Safety issues within the Firm and reporting any concerns to the Health and Safety Representative.
  • Carrying out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the role and its grading, as requested by the line manager, Head of Department or any Partner.

Minimum Qualifications

About the ideal candidate

The ideal applicant will have solid tax advisory experience, preferably in relation to family businesses. You will have operated at the level of Manager, Senior Manager or Associate Director (or equivalent) and be confident at developing and maintaining relationships internally and externally. Opportunities for progression are open for the right candidate with excellent support for training and development needs.

  • Good standard of education, particularly in Maths and English.
  • CA or CTA qualified, or significant previous experience at manager or senior manager level in a professional firm.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience of the tax issues relating to HNWIs and family businesses.
  • Proven experience in client handling and project management.
  • Proven tax experience in producing high quality work within budget.
  • Business development experience or interest in this work would be desirable.
