Job Description:

We are now looking for Systems Engineers (SatComs) to join us in Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will join our Network Management Systems (NMS) group and report to our Head of NMS Centre of Competence - creating solutions for the next generation of satellite communication management systems.

We see positions in the NMS team as a great opportunity to shape future products and solutions that we develop and deploy. The NMS team is a Research and Technology (R&T) package, focusing on filling technology gaps and developing solutions. The team are looking at building future satcom systems using the latest technologies, next level of automation and are very collaborative within the business.

You will be an experienced software systems engineer with a good background in delivering software projects. Within our team, you will work to understand, elaborate and model the system requirements for the software specific elements of a satellite communication system.

You will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance for this role.

Tasks & Accountabilities

  • Defining System Level design and ensuring relevant peer review
  • Contributing to system designs - capturing the role of software products and ensuring these will become a working system
  • Working with our development teams to share the high-level architecture
  • Coordinating with the Product Owner to ensure capabilities are captured on the product backlog and aiding creation of user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Collaborating with the Ground Systems team to ensure user requirements are fully captured and traced
  • Getting involved in daily operations when needed, to meet critical schedules or resolve complex problems

This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Skills & Experience

  • System engineering
  • Experience in modelling to capture the system design; defining the software system architecture at a high level, using a modelling language (SysML, UML, etc)
  • Track record of systems engineering and agile methodologies would be useful
  • A background/interest of satellite communication systems/industry (doesn’t have to be military)
  • Commercial background of understanding the system aspects in a project and determining the role of the software components in solutions
