Global Newsroom Communications Internship

We are looking for a Global Newsroom Communications Intern. The position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in entering the field of corporate communications or public relations and will have direct contact with members of the media and international publishing. Together with the Global Press & Communications Manager, this person will help run Elsevier’s Global Newsroom and communicate news from across the business to international media, with a special focus on science research communication, and corporate announcements. As an important part of the Global Communications team, the intern will get hands-on experience working with some of the most impactful and prestigious academic and scientific journals in the world. They will have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to different types of communications in a global business environment focused on science and technology while working a flexible schedule with their class work.

The intern’s activities include:

• Helping edit, proofread, and distribute press releases and newsletters across our primary channels, wires, and related media agencies
• Answering general Newsroom inquiries and helping run the Newsroom inbox by liaising with global media outlets
• Monitoring social media and news coverage
• Other opportunities within the role include writing original content for internal and external uses, proactively participating in business meetings and brainstorms, working with our global PR firms to assist with pitch creation and coverage tracking.

Fluency in English is a requirement.

Based in the UK or Amsterdam, you will report to the Global Press & Communications Manager and will work 4 days a week (with an agreed-upon schedule that works with your school schedule).

This is a hybrid or remote opportunity.

What you should bring

• Currently enrolled as a Master’s student in a field related to communications, journalism, public relations, or science
• Requirement: Candidate must be enrolled in a university program to be eligible for an internship
• Native or near-native English speaker with excellent communications skills, both in writing and in everyday engagements with stakeholders and external customers
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong organizational skills, the ability to take initiative
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Affinity with science, news, and the media
• Flexible work attitude and able to work under (time) pressure
