Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.

What will you do as a UX Developer Remote Diagnostics?

  • Develop and implement the UX concept, processes and tools that enable remote vehicle diagnostics (you are responsible for the “front-end” of our diagnostic infrastructure whereas your “back-end” colleague will focus on topics like diagnostic trouble code implementation within the vehicle firmware and the technical content of diagnostic procedures);
  • Define IT infra, tooling and data requirements, to be used by the IT & Software Engineering teams to build the remote diagnostics architecture;
  • Act as Customer Support business owner towards the IT & Software Engineering teams and be the spider in the web that works towards fruitful collaboration;
  • Review employee and service partner feedback to improve diagnostic procedures, tooling and design;
  • Develop the roadmap towards automated remote diagnostics (e.g. through the use of Artificial Intelligence).

A day as a UX Developer Remote Diagnostics?

You start the day joining the standup meeting with the customer support team where you align with the Vehicle Support Engineers that they will finish the diagnostic workflow test today such that you will have a successful review workshop tomorrow.

Your next meeting is with the embedded software architect to check the progress on establishing the datalink to remotely read and control our vehicles. The software team discovered that your initial data set definition exceeds the available telematic data bandwidth. You are able to reduce the required bandwidth to a manageable size by reducing the tracking frequency of some of the sensors.

Then, there is a brainstorm with our external service partner that will execute part of the maintenance activities for Lightyear. How can they access required diagnostics data while ensuring data privacy for our customers? You quickly write down some ideas on how to work with IT to make this happen.

Lunch time! You enjoy lunch together with the Customer Support Lead and discuss how AI could boost our diagnostic capabilities in the years to come.

After lunch, you scheduled a work block for yourself to refine your draft UX design of the diagnostic interface that will be built on top of our data lake. You are experimenting with multiple ways to represent relevant vehicle sensor data in intuitive ways that do not lead to information overload for fresh users. Your diagnostic colleague who is more focused on the implementation of diagnostic trouble codes in the vehicle firmware and who defines the fault tree analysis-logic has provided you with dummy data to create the mockups.

Before closing your laptop for the day, you review your workshop slide deck for tomorrow and receive a call from the Vehicle Support Engineers that they are ready to go. That promises to be a fun day!

About Lightyear

Lightyear is an innovative and progressive scale-up with one mission: clean mobility for everyone, everywhere.

Lightyear originates from the legacy as a multiple world championship of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge® Cruiser Class. Officially established in 2016 by 5 visionaries with the dream to make this groundbreaking technology accessible to everyone, everywhere. In order to accelerate the transition towards a truly sustainable solution for mobility, we believe that it is necessary to completely rethink automotive design by starting from scratch, not limited by industry conventions.

At Lightyear, we all strive for the same goal. We have a team with diverse skill sets and backgrounds; all working tirelessly towards clean mobility for everyone, everywhere. We’re proud of our culture and live up to our core values: think independently, be bold, deliver the change, put people first and take responsibility. Our shared vision is what unites and drives us.

At Lightyear we are building an electric car that charges itself. From our experience at Solar Team Eindhoven, we know this is only possible starting from scratch. At Lightyear we bring together a multidisciplinary team of highly motivated engineers, designers, and visionaries to challenge the status quo. Write the story with us!
