Job Purpose

The Global Logistics Procurement Manager – Ocean & Air Transport is responsible for strategy development and execution of globally managed portfolios and / or the development of global procurement capabilities, processes and tools to support and enable cluster / regional and market procurement professionals to develop and execute their logistics procurement strategies. This key position will elevate the way Unilever procures Ocean and Air freight by business partnering and working closely with, amongst others, the global logistics, cluster and market logistics procurement teams. The role is focused on creating sourcing strategies that align with overall business needs.

This position will be responsible for Procurement development of key transformation / innovation areas across Logistics including:

  • Development and execution of global Ocean and Air Procurement strategies to secure capacity and enable competitive buying across the globe;
  • Ensure uninterrupted service, year-on-year cost reduction, cash improvement with compliance to the Unilever Code of Business Principles;
  • Collaborate with Logistics Excellence and support on the development and launch of the International Control Tower for Ocean and Air freight;
  • Making sure to land initiatives resulting from the Logistics Business Plan: Increasing cost transparency, Sustainability roadmap.

This is a leadership position with responsibility for the delivery and professional development of up to 1-6 direct reports.

What will your main responsibilities be?

Direct sourcing responsibility for the assigned portfolio:

  • In charge of the whole process from internal needs understanding, through definition and implementation of the right procurement strategy for the scope and running of sourcing events (tenders, requests for proposal), leading negotiations, contracting as well as contract approval cycles and signing.
  • Build market intelligence to understand cost drivers, inflation development and potential new service providers/technologies that could disrupt the business and help extra capacity creation.
  • Work with local and global stakeholders to analyze and collate information regarding current requirements and future needs.
  • Business partnering to the logistics operational team in the markets to deliver continuous improvement projects to achieve cost and service level targets and drive benchmark activities.
  • Develop, implement and drive the procurement strategies for the portfolio and suppliers
  • Proactively identify and deliver Savings and/or Cash in line with set targets through identification and proposals for cost reduction/continuous performance improvement (supplier) opportunities. Yearly Business Plan development with the Global procurement team and Partnering with Finance on tracking performance on a monthly basis.
  • Drive Supplier management in line with their strategic importance to the business and Unilever’s business partnering approach. Maintain frequent contact with suppliers, to review/resolve issues and to develop current insights into suppliers’ business conditions. Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers. Develop supplier service Levels, track and analyze supplier performance data, proposing priorities for performance improvement and follow up monitoring actions. Address / escalate supplier non-performance as appropriate. Joint business planning with key suppliers to drive value delivery.
  • Act as point of contact for the business issues/questions relating to assigned portfolio. Manage escalations/disruption with suppliers and the business
  • Driving Sustainability initiatives for CO2 reduction and innovation relevant for Logistics within those markets
  • Develop & lead the Logistics procurement digital agenda for this portfolio
  • Support Strategic projects such as Control Tower transition

Portfolio Description

  • Spend Managed ~200m million Euros; Suppliers Managed: 50-100; Network: 200+ warehouse and factories across all markets; People: Manages 1-6 direct reports.
  • Additional responsibility will be added, especially in area of transformation and innovation in logistics space.

Experience you should have

  • Solid to advanced experience in procurement of Ocean freight.
  • 10+ years in SC, with at least 5-7 years in Procurement.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing logistics/portfolio procurement strategies.
  • Logistics procurement knowledge in addition to strong program and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with 3PL activity-based cost modeling and contracting strategies.
  • Experience on large-scale change management projects.
  • Experience of managing cross-cultural/ distributed teams.
  • Experience in Logistics and Ocean Freight Procurement is a plus.
  • Experience of Inclusive leadership, Team Coaching and Development skills.
