What will you do as Sr. Copywriter at Lightyear?

As a copywriter you’ll become part of the Brand & Experience team which is one of the key disciplines within our Commerce Circle. Strategically, this circle creates a strong and desired brand while it drives Lightyear to be customer-centric, by providing market and customer insights.

While being part of this team it’s up to you, consider it your personal mission to:

Inform, engage and excite our target audience about Lightyear through unique copy. You will make sure we tell all the stories worth telling about. You’ll do this by deep diving into the company while being equipped with creativity and solid storytelling skills. While finding the right words, your ultimate goal is to make sure we are honest and clear in our communication while it’s aligned with our brand.

Imaginably, working as a copywriter at Lightyear is exciting but what can a day look like?

Let's start by saying Lightyear is very flexible in terms of your working hours, we offer near-full remote working with any office equipment we need to work ergonomically (and a work-at-home budget to upgrade your internet). If needed, or desired, you can spend your working time at our modern office at the Automotive Campus close to Helmond (travel allowance included), or at our satellite offices in Amsterdam and Utrecht. Here you can enjoy a good cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, fresh fruit and experience the buzz of the office and our labs.

So, let's assume it's Friday, you chose to come to our office and the first thing you do is grab your favorite wake-up drink before rolling into the first meeting of your day: the daily stand-up with the entire Marketing team. You and the team discuss major milestones and ongoing campaigns so everyone's up to date on what's going on.

Next, you have an interview scheduled with a Lightyear engineer to take a deeper dive into the development of the electric motors of Lightyear One. The engineer and her team had a technical breakthrough that is worth highlighting in external communications. After this interview you immediately schedule a follow-up meeting with our CTO to make sure we find the right balance between telling the whole story and confidentiality. Inspired by both meetings and having some time left you start creating the first outline for the in-depth article, which you then share with the engineer to collect her initial feedback. To cool down before lunch, you scan your favorite blogs online, looking for the latest SEO trends. One thing in particular stands out in your eyes, and you share it in the Marketing chat to inspire your colleagues.

After a nice lunch in the restaurant on the campus, you decide to quickly grab a banana from the fruit box and go for a stroll in the park in front of our office together with a few colleagues. During walks like these, it's not all about work. You talk about your plans for the weekend, and you decide to hang out and do some mountain biking together.

After the stroll, you spend the next 90 minutes fully concentrating on finishing a blog post you started writing last week. The blog post is about the importance of efficiency for electric vehicles. To verify some of the numbers in the blog post you check in with an engineer on the team. Next, you spend some time proofreading our quarterly investor newsletter and checking it for adherence to our brand and tone-of-voice guidelines, grammar and spelling errors. Also you have a quick check-in with your colleague copywriter to prepare the captions that will accompany three upcoming social media posts.

Lastly, you and a few colleagues on the Brand & Experience team meet to review the results of a test that our CRM Manager ran. His A/B testing revealed that captions using the first person drive much higher user engagement than using the third person. Then, it's finally time for your well-deserved Friday afternoon drink or you participate in one of the fun activities our happiness team comes up with! All in all, being a copywriter at Lightyear is an exciting job! Although your role will be quite fluid, formally it’ll be focused on:

  • Tell the story of Lightyear, our products and our impact
  • Develop and sharpen Lightyear’s tone of voice and style guidelines, and define specific Lightyear vocabulary, corresponding with our brand’s identity
  • Write clear, compelling, error-free, consistent and attractive content marketing and communication copy that adheres to the company’s style guidelines
  • As the voice of the organization, you touch the various departments within Lightyear to find and translate the stories worth telling
  • Content items include (but are not limited to): press releases, website articles, email content, advertisements, social media copy, investor communication
  • Edit and proofread copy when needed
  • Use SEO principles to maximize reach

someone with a high sense of responsibility and a cooperative attitude within

multidisciplinary teams. You are the ideal candidate for this position if you; thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times. You are able to translate technical info/stories into a broader comprehensible message. You can grasp project requirements quickly and offer valuable insight. You are a team-spirited, skilled and imaginative writer with an eye for detail. You are willing and able to grow with the company and in the role. And last but not least, you continually raise the bar on creativity, writing fresh copy that connects with the desired audience and drives action. Furthermore you recognize yourself in the following aspects:

  • Bachelor or Master degree within the field of communication sciences
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Creative storytelling skills with a commercial mindset
  • Able to understand the different viewpoints from all stakeholders
  • Able to listen, analyse and conclude
  • Functional understanding of technical and market-related challenges of a start-up like ours!
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Flawless in writing in English, being a native English speaker is highly preferred (preferably British English, so there is some improvement to be made in this specific vacancy ;-)
  • Ability to work on a lot of different items at the same time
