Sitting within the multi-disciplined Electro-mechanical design team, you will design, develop and test new and existing electronics for sensors, alternator regulators and ignition coils in applications across motorsport.

Our multi-skilled team applies world-leading engineering tools, techniques and processes to the creation of novel concepts, detailed design and verification through to production delivery.

As a small, highly effective and agile team, we work closely with other Engineering functions, Chief Engineers, Product Management and Production Teams. We pride ourselves on our collaboration across the company and wider business and our strong working relationships with external customers.

Purpose of the Role

To develop high performance products through the application of advanced technology.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Operate within a multi-disciplinary team, in a range of different industries outside familiar areas of expertise.
  • Support production departments, project planning, budget estimates and pre-sales bid activities, taking an active role in customer technical discussions.
  • Plan, manage and account for your time which may be required across multiple projects. Anticipate any issues which might affect delivery progress and proactively address these, escalating for support if required.
  • Communicate with clarity to key stakeholders at all levels of our business, customer organisations and supply partners.
  • Drive your career development proactively as part of a structured appraisal and feedback process. Identify and undertake learning and development opportunities and actively manage a continuous professional development plan.
  • Provide input into team strategy discussions, taking a shared responsibility for the team’s growth, capability development and external image. Help to continually improve our team’s processes and provide enhancements to our toolsets.
  • You will undertake and manage the full development cycle from specification, design, testing, schematic capture, through to supporting PCB layout, manufacture and assembly operations while following and developing design procedures. Prepare hardware specifications and test reports and creating production test and build instructions.
  • You will design to best practices in terms of EMC, thermal management and product reliability. You can comfortably take designs from concept through to market, whilst maintaining both the pace and accuracy expected from a high-performance team.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • BEng or MEng Electronic Engineering degree, or similar relevant electrical engineering subject, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience within an electronics design role. Experience within Aerospace, Defense or Automotive may be advantageous.
  • Engineering involvement across a product’s design lifecycle including: project scoping and gathering requirements with customers; prototyping and testing designs ready for manufacture; liaising with manufacturing partners and the supply chain, acting as design authority and post-sales support.
  • Excellent Electronic engineering foundation, with the ability to solve problems from first principles and hand calculations.
  • Appreciation of company brand value and consistently working to high design standards.
  • You will be able to demonstrate your design ability with both analogue and digital circuits, normally with CAN based communications and analogue outputs.
  • You will be comfortable speaking with customers to support existing designs alongside defining future product design specifications.
  • You will be able to demonstrate examples of optimising circuit design, for ease of manufacture and production test, and component design to maximise efficiency, package density, layout efficiency, reliability and thermal performance.
  • Can work as part of a multi-discipline team including hardware, software and mechanical engineers.
  • Will have a natural curiosity for leading edge technology and demonstrate an inclusive and collaborative workplace style.
  • Proficient with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, experience of Cadence would be an advantage.

Values and Behaviours

  • Ownership and responsibility for delivery. Self-starter, accustomed to working independently with minimal guidance.
  • Openness of communication, sharing issues and concerns and unafraid to propose novel solutions.
  • Bravery in the development of new ideas, leading the way for others to follow. Comfortable with multi-tasking and adapting to changing project requirements.
  • Ingenuity to solve difficult engineering problems, valuing attention to detail and balancing viability, desirability and feasibility.
  • Humility when achieving great delivery outcomes, acting as a mentor and role model for colleagues within the business and wider group.
