Contribution to the product management of the International Uniform Chemical

Information Database (IUCLID: iuclid6.echa.europa.eu).

The objective of this traineeship is to contribute to the product management activities of the IUCLID team. In particular, the IUCLID team is looking for a trainee to be part of one of the following projects.

1. ThefirstprojectconsistsofcontributingtotheharmonisationoftheIUCLID format. This project involves collaboration with key ECHA stakeholders such as the OECD, as well as requiring scientific understanding in the fields of chemistry, toxicology, or ecotoxicology. The objective of this project is to further enhance the harmonisation of data reported to comply with the information requirements under different European and international regulatory programmes.

2. The second project consists of contributing to the development of the IUCLID report templates and risk assessment reports. This project involves getting to know the Freemarker and DocBook programming languages, as well as engagement with internal and external stakeholders as to the scientific requirements for the risk assessment reports. The objective of this project is to enhance the harmonisation of risk assessment reports between different regulatory programmes in Europe and internationally.

Unit

The Computational Assessment Unit B2 develops methods and tools for data collection, data analysis, priority setting, non-test strategies and chemical safety assessment and provides expert advice and support for their use within and outside the Agency.

Assignment

This training position offers opportunities to:

  • Acquire hands on experience with IUCLID, an internationally-used scientificapplication;
  • Develop an understanding of regulatory requirements at the OECD and European levels;

  • Develop skills in communicating with different types of stakeholders;

  • Familiarise yourself with how the product management of a scientific application actually works;

  • Contribute to the promotion of IUCLID and the development of trainings.

  • The work will include:
  • Performing technical and administrative activities in support of REACH, CLP or Biocides processes;
  • Contributing to the support given to IUCLID’s stakeholders, and to the development of harmonised approaches for reporting information on chemicals;
  • Encoding, mapping, and verifying scientific/technical specifications.

Profile

General requirements

  • The trainee will either be in their final year of a Master’s degree programme or have recently completed a Master’s degree;
  • Motivation to work in a regulatory environment and with detailed work;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Aptitude for team work;
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English (as this is the working language of the Agency).

The following skills/experience will be considered an asset:

  • A background or experience in, training stakeholders on a scientifc IT tool;
  • A background or experience in, IT tool development (such as testing, reporting technical issues, using programming languages, implementing technical specifications);

  • A background or experience in, drafting scientific and technical specifications;
