What is Assurance at EY?

We work to make sure that businesses are protected from risks that can affect their reputation and performance. As external auditors, we help companies and governments publish accurate financial accounts others can rely on – so we can build a better working world.

Applications to this programme are now open in the following locations: Aberdeen, Birmingham, Belfast, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle, Reading and Southampton

What will you be doing?

  • Getting to know our clients, their businesses and how they work
  • Testing checks and balances to ensure they work how they’re supposed to
  • Analysing the data that goes into a financial statement to make sure it is true and fair
  • You’ll spend substantial periods of time travelling to other offices and client sites
  • You will be expected to work longer hours during peak times in client delivery work – this is especially the case during busy season when you will need to work over weekends too

What’s it like?

From working with a variety of clients and organising departmental events, to studying for a professional qualification and helping train new graduates, Liz is constantly learning on the Assurance graduate programme – and loving it.

How’s it structured?

First up, an induction will verse you in all things EY. Before you know it you’ll be working on audits for clients (with lots of help of course!). This includes being your clients main contact and regularly working from their offices, getting a team together, spotting business opportunities and ensuring it’s all profitable.

Along the way you’ll study and shadow senior colleagues, supported by your own personal counsellor who’ll help guide your growth. This kind of exposure to the finance industry, together with working towards your qualifications, will open up many more opportunities within EY and beyond. The experience you gain will vary depending on your location as different offices offer different opportunities depending upon their clients.

Throughout the programme you’ll be part of the EY graduate community, and you’ll have a buddy to help guide you. They’ll be your first point of call for practical help and guidance. We also provide coaching so you always have access to impartial advice, opportunities and ongoing advice.

Starting out in assurance requires dedication, hard work and long hours, but the knowledge and experience you’ll gain will set you on a fulfilling career path.

Where could an assurance career take you?

Working in Assurance at EY, you’ll get to work across different sectors, gain opportunities to work abroad and open doors for your future career.

EY is an assurance, tax, transaction and advisory company.
