  • Are you excited about the opportunity of providing excellent nursing care to the elderly?

As one of the largest Not for Profits Care providers in the UK specialising in providing relationship-centred care for older people in nursing, residential and independent living homes. As a charity we ensure that any revenue goes straight back into our homes for the benefit of our residents and staff who look after them. We have a deep commitment to quality and this is shown by our 2nd place in the national CQC compliance league table rating 87% of our homes good or outstanding.

Situated in the charming town of Henley-on-Thames is Chilterns Court Care Centre, offering first class and compassionate residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to 64 residents in homely and comfortable surroundings. We also offer long term, respite residential and nursing care as well as residential dementia care and intermediate care. What will you be doing?

You can expect a wide range of responsibilities, from developing tailored care plans, providing medicine safely to overseeing the care team; overall delivering excellence in everything you do.

Working autonomously, managing a caseload of complex cases which will be challenging as well as rewarding. You will have the ability to understand and manage the complexities of the multitude of clinical and psychological factors that affect the health and well-being of our elderly residents, whilst in turn supporting their families.

Our Nurses also supervise our Nurse Associates and support the care team by designating the nursing assignments, leading on clinical issues and making up the working schedules. Ensuring everyone does things the right way.

What experience do you need?

We believe our Registered Nurses are highly valued, combining a set of key skills and experience that are essential to delivering the quality care that allows our residents to age with dignity. The social care landscape is changing: as we live longer, we have more complex clinical needs. We are therefore looking for nurses who have the following qualities that we consider to be essential to this role:

Professionalism and resilience

Caring for our resident’s psychological and social well-being can be challenging at times. It’s during these times we expect our Nurses to continue to act in a professional manner, show determination, drive and commitment to work through the set backs. You will also be patient, understanding, empathetic, and compassionate, with a true desire to build relationships with your patients rather than them just be a number.

Effective communication

The ability to communicate is crucial to any healthcare role, but particularly for those working with our dementia residents. We are looking for Nurses who’s verbal and written communication is clear, effective and appropriate for the situation or audience.

Providing excellent care

A strong commitment to providing the highest standards of care to achieve freedom of choice for our residents wherever possible. By recognising that each person is an individual, involving them in daily decisions, we believe enables them to feel control in their own life.

Leading and getting the best from others

We expect our Nurses to lead by example, share their own knowledge and skills and challenge poor practice to ensure our residents receive best quality of care all of the time.

In addition we require you to have at least an associate degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and be currently registered with NMC. Experience of producing well developed care plans and detailed risk assessments is important too, as is an understanding of regulatory frameworks, including DoLs and MCA.

What will you get in return?

Despite the challenges, the rewards for both our Nurses are great. Our roles offer greater flexibility in working patterns, a little more autonomy with decision making, in a consultative, case-management role.

We are committed to continuing professional development of our staff and you will have excellent opportunities to specialise in many different areas such as palliative care or dementia care through mentoring and further education.

In addition to this, as a key member of the OSJCT team you can expect benefits such as:

  • Fully funded renewal of your NMC PIN
  • Company pension
  • Paid breaks
  • Overtime and weekend rates of pay
  • Free DBS
  • Free uniform
  • Refer a Friend bonus scheme paying £1000 for nurse recommendations
  • Offer to pay Tier 2 visa application fee for eligible nurses
  • “My Rewards” offering you discount on shopping, days out, restaurants and much more

The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) operates 72 homes and 16 extra care housing schemes across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, West Sussex and Suffolk.

OSJCT provides high quality person centred care for older people including dementia, intermediate, respite and day care, and specialised nursing.

Its ethos of care, which underpins all its activities, is based on the belief that every resident living in its homes should be given care that meets their individual needs. It also believes that residents and day care visitors should enjoy life in an atmosphere of warmth, harmony and understanding, being cared for by people who appreciate their need for privacy and who will respect their dignity and freedom of choice.

OSJCT is a not-for-profit charitable trust which means any financial surplus is reinvested for the benefit of the residents.

Its primary charitable object is ‘the relief of the aged, the infirm and the sick’. This is underpinned by the Christian principles and ethos of its two sponsoring Orders - the Order of Malta and the Venerable Order of St John. Between them, these two Orders bring a combined total of over 1,000 years of experience in care, relief and service. Today, they provide OSJCT’s Trustees.

OSJCT employ approximately 4,000 staff and support more than 3,500 residents. The quality of its service has been accredited by the National Care Forum, through its "Quality First" framework.

It also works closely with Dementia UK and was among the first care providers to employ its own specialist Admiral Nurses.
