Who is Lightyear?

Lightyear is an innovative and progressive scale-up with one mission; offering clean mobility for everyone, everywhere! Lightyear originates from the multiple world champion of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge® Cruiser Class, Solar Team Eindhoven. With Stella and Stella Lux this team developed a solar powered, 4 person, road legal car. Lightyear was officially established in 2016 aiming to make this groundbreaking technology accessible to everyone! In 2016 it started with 5 visionaries. At the beginning of 2018 Lightyear had grown to 40 highly motivated people. Today, Lightyear consists of nearly 150 employees and keeps on growing. Lightyear has its own production facility and in the summer of 2019 we moved to our brand new office. This growth will continue in the coming years. For that reason we are looking for talented interns to strengthen the company and contribute in achieving our mission!

Which team will you become part of?

You’ll be part of the team that develops the automated driving functions at Lightyear, a team that consists of all sorts of engineers and disciplines, from software and control to mechanical engineering. The team is responsible for integrating the state-of-the-art sensors and designing the control algorithms for the automated driving functions of the Lightyear One.

Your personal missionYou’ll focus on co-developing new automated driving functions, such as Adaptive Cruise Control or Automatic Emergency Braking, from scratch and together with other team members. That means you’ll be involved from design and implementation to testing and validation. You’ll work with automotive sensor data and design the models that control the vehicle’s automated driving functions. You’ll then have the chance to test your own algorithms on the road and in real world conditions.

Requirements in order to achieve your personal mission

Currently you’re pursuing a Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Mechanical/Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

Furthermore, you’re:

  • Looking for an internship as of Late 2019 or early 2020.
  • In search of either an internship or graduate project.
  • Skilled in Control Engineering and model-based design, both theoretically and practically.
  • Skilled in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Familiar with control theory and model predictive control
  • Experienced with C/C++ programming. Other programming or scripting languages are a plus.
  • Well known with automotive automated driving functions. Previous experience with ADAS is a great plus.
  • Slightly familiar with automotive sensors such as radars and cameras which will be appreciated.

What you bring along as a talented intern

As an intern you are an highly passionate engineer that wants to create excellent designs. Additionally, you:

  • Want to learn new stuff by getting involved in the development of new ADAS.A
  • re a true problem solver and critical thinker
  • Bring along well developed interpersonal skills being able to adapt to a multicultural and dynamic environment.
  • Fun to work with!

What do we offer

In addition to a challenging internship you also have the opportunity to work for a company with a real, honest and ambitious mission. In this way you have the opportunity to make a huge impact on the future of mobility! In addition, we also offer:

  • A high degree of freedom and independence during your internship
  • A multidisciplinary team of highly motivated and talented people you can learn from
  • A certain internship allowance depending on educational level and type of internship
  • In addition to a dynamic working environment, there is time for relaxation during our already epic Friday afternoon drinks!

At Lightyear we are building an electric car that charges itself. From our experience at Solar Team Eindhoven, we know this is only possible starting from scratch. At Lightyear we bring together a multidisciplinary team of highly motivated engineers, designers, and visionaries to challenge the status quo. Write the story with us!

"Lightyear is een geweldig bedrijf om voor te werken. Het voelt voor mij meer als familie dan een werkgever. Klinkt misschien een beetje heftig, maar het is zo. Je maakt makkelijk vrienden op werk: iedereen is vriendelijk, behulpzaam en zo gemotiveerd om echt een verschil te maken in de wereld.”
