Job Description

Siemens Rail Automation manufacture a wide range of Safety and non Safety critical signal systems for the Rail industry including both mainline and metro systems, our customer base includes China, Singapore, Portugal, Spain and Germany. The manufacturing facilities are split into four functional areas, electronics, Relays, Pre-wire and electro-mechanical, each producing a high variety of low volume products. Our customers require long term product support therefore dealing with obsolescence and introducing design modifications becomes the norm.

The Challenge

You will provide technical support to the electronic manufacturing line and on occasions in the other functional areas. This support would require a high level of electronic debug skills where a test technician has diagnosed there is a possible test set error that requires fixing or maintaining.

You should also have experience in designing test equipment (both manual and automatic) therefore test equipment hardware design, knowledge of CAD and computer programming is preferred.

You have ability to read circuit diagrams and understand the operation to enable the debug of both test equipment and product. They must be able to write test methods and procedures in a clear and simple fashion.

The role will involve communicating with the design teams to both introduce new products and resolve current technical challenges. This will result in the need to raise engineering changes detailing the problem and a potential solution.

What part will you play?

  • Fault find Electronic products to component level.
  • Implement design changes to test equipment and test methods as a result of product changes.
  • Collaborate with the Product design team to resolve technical problems and raise Engineering changes.
  • Hardware design and specification of measuring instruments, test fixtures and cable harnesses.
  • Interpret equipment specifications and circuit diagrams to develop comprehensive test solutions.
  • Resolve manufacturing problems in a timely manner.
  • Investigate and evaluate test equipment improvements resulting in an increase in test equipment reliability or efficiency.
  • Introducing quality improvements to achieve ‘Right First Time’ standards.
  • Ability to design test equipment within the necessary time scales of the project plan, write the test methods and train the technicians on the use of the equipment.
  • Be an active part of the New Product Introduction team to introduce electronic based products into the market place.

You have:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in electronic/electrical engineering.
  • Experience in Test engineering of electrical and electronics products.
  • Experience in Mechanical engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to liaise with varying levels of technical staff and customers.
  • Good team working skills.
  • PC literate and proficient in using Microsoft Office packages, especially Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience of Labview, Teststand and in Dos Basic programming language.
  • Able to work to targets and time-scales.

Working Hours:

Monday - Thursday 07:00-15:30

Friday 07:00-15:00

Additional hours may be required to meet the needs of the business.
