About Veolia

We are resourcing the world. We manufacture green products and green energy using waste, waste water and wasted heat as a resource mine. We provide tailored solutions for industry or municipalities to help them save and preserve resources. We are working hard to create a future in which end-of-life resources are transformed into products that enrich our lives and can power our homes and industry. The circular economy already represents 20% of our turnover and we are constantly developing innovative ways to develop access to, preserve and replenish resources. To achieve our vision; we focus on creating a team with a diverse range of talent that operates in a safe, innovative and sustainable environment in order to promote the green economy and build new markets.

About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Chemist to join the teams at 4 of our Hazardous Waste sites (North) as part of the Graduate Development Programme. You will be rotating every 6 months, gaining valuable experience in a number of areas, including:

  • Managing Packaged Wastes - Screening/checking of incoming loads, bulking drummed and packaged wastes and checking outgoing loads using chemical desktop assessments as well as other analytical techniques.T
  • Treatment Plant - Working to control the chemical treatment process to ensure required end points are reached. This will involve taking samples from the reaction tanks, completing analysis and advising of adjustments to the process as required.
  • Chempac (our mobile chemist service) - Working alongside experienced chemists as well as working independently at customer premises to identify materials; pack materials into suitable containers and transport to a transfer station or disposal point.
  • Specialised Treatment - Working to support experienced chemists and other technically competent staff to carry out bespoke technical work. For example, screening and bulking laboratory chemicals; processing gas cylinders; working on paint recycling project and producing waste blends for onward processing at other facilities.
