Creating the cars of tomorrow is a challenge around 40,000 passionate Jaguar Land Rover colleagues take on every day. The way cars are created and driven is changing. And we are leading that change. Our vision is for a cleaner, smarter, more connected world where autonomous, connected, electrified and shared vehicles will replace the environmentally impactful world of the internal combustion engine. Throughout our history we have always taken on the challenges of creating the most prestigious, sustainable and desirable cars.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Vehicles are becoming increasingly reliant on more software every year. As the customer enters the vehicle it identifies the key fob and the customer’s phone to recognise and customise their in-vehicle experience. On their journey, software assists driving with stability and assistance systems, and provides a refined user experience through in-vehicle infotainment.

At Jaguar Land Rover, our software engineering teams are responsible for designing and developing software which runs both inside and outside of the vehicle, supporting all of the features a customer expects from a Jaguar Land Rover product. During your placement you will get to work in one of our software teams and develop experience and insight into our software approach.

We use iterative and concurrent engineering approaches to provide robust software innovation and integration into Jaguar Land Rover products. We use a multitude of techniques including model-based software development and writing code. You could be involved in the creation of these models or the code, or providing support, guidance and review to our suppliers to ensure robust products and experiences are delivered.

There are many different projects that you could be engaged in from day one including automation and infrastructure. You could be part of a team implementing a cloud-based infrastructure providing the tools and environment for large software teams to work within. Elastic cloud architectures, infrastructure as code and a variety of scripting languages will be used to create the environment.

Or you could be working in low-level software development ensuring the in-vehicle computer systems have the best balance of performance. Low -Level boot charts, balancing processor core loading and refining fast boot processes are areas you will focus on to produce the best in-vehicle performance.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Excellence runs throughout our entire business and we expect you to be the same. So, as well as a degree in software engineering; computer science or cyber security at 2:2 level or higher, you’ll need drive, creativity, a keen eye for detail, and a never-ending commitment to delivering results.

Through placements in your assigned area of engineering, you’ll discover our dedication to developing excellence runs throughout the business. Your innovation and creativity will be challenged every day, as you develop a rigorous and commercially focused approach to your work.

As we are engaged in software engineering in many of our locations including Whitley and Gaydon in Warwickshire; Manchester; and Shannon in Ireland, there is the possibility that placements may take you a variety of our locations based on business need.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

Your innovation and creativity will be challenged every day, as you develop a rigorous and commercially focused approach in your work. And, with on-going support from industry leading experts and continual learning opportunities, you’ll quickly realise that our programmes have been designed to be as inspiring as the pioneering vehicles you’ll help produce.

Whichever part of the business you join your hard work and contribution deserves recognition. You’ll receive a competitive salary of £29,000 per annum, a £2,000 joining bonus, along with a generous holiday allowance. There are a range of other benefits and regular social events so plenty of chances to make friends and have fun too.
