Job Summary:

The Solution Architect is responsible for leading the definition, documentation, selection and communication of new and updated technology solutions. They utilise their knowledge of Beazley’s existing capabilities, as well as a broad knowledge of other relevant and emerging technology, to help guide and shape new solutions. The Solution Architect takes guidance from Enterprise Architecture to ensure that all proposed solutions align with the business and technology strategies. The solution architect is part of the technical architecture community, and will collaborate and share knowledge accordingly.

The Solution Architect works with business stakeholders from the ideas stage onward to ensure designs meet their needs, and that the stakeholder is aware of how technology can help them meet their business challenges.

The Solution Architect is responsible for:

Defining the solution options for business challenges,

Aligning the solution options with the technology strategy,

Ensuring the solution meets business needs,

Challenging complex technology and IT led solutions,

Documenting architectural decisions, patterns and designs.

Scope of Activities:

  • Analyse requirements to extract those of architectural and design significance,
  • Document solution options that will meet the requirements and governance frameworks, balancing the goals and constraints of the solution,
  • Work with Change Delivery to ensure that the delivered system is consistent with the agreed architecture and delivers value to the stakeholders,
  • Understand, advocate, and support the Beazley technology strategy,
  • Ensure solutions are aligned with the business and technology strategies,
  • Utilise the Architectural Development Method (ADM) to ensure a consistent and governable approach to architecture within Beazley,
  • Ensure a collaborative approach for solution design across all areas of IT,
  • Provide architecture support and guidance for Beazley IT teams and external vendors,
  • Provide expert advice on industry and application trends,
  • Ensure that capabilities, where practical, are consolidated in order to increase the value of IT as a service.

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.

Personal Specification:

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, systems analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience,

Knowledge/Experience/Skills

Previous knowledge and active use of industry frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, and PEAF will be of advantage. The Solution Architect will have a good grounding with modelling tools such as Avolution Abacus and Sparx Enterprise Architect, or have the ability to quickly pick up these tools. Ideally they will have a thorough understanding of the challenges facing the business and will have a deep awareness of technology, media, tools, trends and adoption rates.

  • Knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation,
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and technical skills,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Strong modelling capability with the ability to clearly represent complex ideas graphically
  • Familiar with a variety of modelling approaches, tools and model repositories
