You’ll have full day-to-day involvement in actual projects, selected to match your IT interests and abilities.

The placement

Immersive learning environment that uses virtual reality (VR) solutions are increasingly relevant for trainings in the energy industry. With significant improvement in the mixed reality technologies and reduced cost in recent years, there is a clear opportunity to virtualise the learning curriculum with immersive expenses that could play a significantly role in reducing HSSE exposure to employees in training situations, enable better decision making on the job and bring people faster to professional autonomy. To capture these opportunities, Shell has embarked on a simulation-based learning programme to digitalise and tackle the training need of its employees.

As an intern you will be fully responsible for shaping and delivering the research projects below. You will have access to Shell’s Subject Matter Experts from different disciplines across the businesses. You will be provided with any necessary trainings and tools to complete the job effectively and efficiently.

There are two-distinct parts in this internship:

  • You will be responsible for assessing different virtual reality platforms that are being considered for adoption in Shell. The objective is to perform a comprehensive analysis and assessments of given VR platforms from a technical and non-technical element.
  • Furthermore, you will provide your recommendation and the way forward for Shell. You will have the opportunity to develop impactful VR learnings solution for tackling a learning need in Shell and use the experience to assess the technical capabilities of the VR platforms. You will collaborate with our external suppliers and work closely with Shell’s digital realities centre of excellence (based out of Shell Technology centre in Amsterdam) to get your hands on the real development and assessment work.

Also, you will be working very closely with the simulation-based learning programme manager on a day to day basis and get exposure to wider communication, writing technical papers, publishing internal articles and participate in wide variety of day to day business activities.

What we look for

  • You are enrolled in a University Master's Degree programme related to IT e.g. Computer Science, human technology interaction, computer graphics, programming languages software engineering.
  • You are available for 6 months
  • You are available for at least 4 days a week
  • Any experience with VR/game development will be a plus (in particular experience with Unreal Engine and Unity)
  • Experience in programming languages
  • Digital technology enthusiast
  • Excellent English language skill (verbal and writing)
  • Excellent presentation and influencing skill
  • Strong analytical and data skills with affinity to business-technology research or technology valuation
